I'm in a math class which is developed to teach elementary teachers how to teach math and there's a movement to not use the term "borrow" because "borrowing" implies "lacking money" implies "poor" implies "disadvantaged" which good offend or hurt students feelings.
Really?
And the gradual weakening of our youth's abilities to handle the real world continues. Honestly, if a kid can't emotionally handle the idea of "borrowing", s/he will be torn to pieces by the world outside school and home. This is not the way to help kids, this is the opposite.
Back when I was taking karate, during sparing we were told over and over and over again: Do not go easy on your opponent. They may be your friend, but that's all the more reason to do your best, because it is MUCH better for them to face a dedicated attack in class, by someone who does not mean them real harm, so that they may experience it in the safest possible enviorment, and learn how to deal with it. Going easy on someone in sparring could only lead to them being under prepared to face a real attack out in the world, with no one to help them, with possibly their life on the line. That is not the time to try and learn what a real fight is like.
Same shit here, if we continue to baby and baby these kids like this, they will never learn how to handle the emotional crap that life throws on everyone. They will be weak, pathetic, and unable to cope because they never had to learn how. It's like parents who dissenfect the hell out of everything, their kid's immune systems never get to build up any resistances, and so they have weak defenses against illness for the rest of their lives.
If you want your kids to be tough enough to handle real life, you're going to have to let them get bumped up a bit. They'll survive it, the human race has been through much worse times then this and kept going.

This is the same argument opponents of peanut free schools make. We should not be insulating them from what they are allergic to, we should be teaching them how to recognize what they should avoid and how to do so and what to do if they are exposed to it.

My computer crashed yesterday, my dad fixed it sort of by copying the Windows boot files off another drive. I'm glad my dad knows stuff about computers, otherwise we would have been screwed.
I'm going to the doctor today to have my sinuses checked out, for the fourth time. I got a CT scan done on my sinuses, and the doc will be checking them to see how it looks. I'm hoping it's something that requires surgery. I know this sounds weird, but if it doesn't require surgery it means I have no choice but to live with it the rest of my life. Currently I have a sinus infection, and a horrible migraine. Funny thing, my migraines aren't aggravated by light or sound or computer screens, they're just there and they suck.

Have you tried an allergist or neurologist? Most true migraines (in the technical sense) are triggered by a food allergy.

Yup, first thing we did was an allergist when I was about 3 or 4, then a neurologist when I was about 8-13, and then after that I went back to the allergist, and found I was again allergic to nothing, nothing at all. And the neurologist found nothing wrong, so we have exhausted all possible ideas besides what we're currently tracking. All together I think I've probably cost my parents around 10-30 thousand dollars in regular doctor bills, hospital bills, tests, and everything else. Our insurance probably hates us, they have paid for I think 10 hospital visits...

Agreed
Isn't stealing(take away) worse than borrowing anyway???

So, I went to the doctor, and nothing is wrong with me, story of my life. Seriously, every time I go in to have something checked out it turns out that everything is fine, I'm never "sick" nothing ever comes back positive, which I wish it did, so I knew what I was dealing with. He put me on an antihistamine spray, which probably won't help in the least, but we can always hope.

Had a kid talk about fighting me. I told him "try it." He said "You can't hit me or you'll get in trouble!" I informed him under law since he's a minor "I can't hit you FIRST, but I will hit you last."

I love that. I worked high school security out here when I first moved to the island, and used to hear that crap all the time. Teenage selective hearing always bypasses the "Self Defense" concept
No offense to our teenage bretheren here.

Sorry.
Just on a mad scientist gig. I've been shouting out, "They thought me mad!" for some odd reason.
Anyway, good luck, Staplic.

@ Mark I know what it is, heck, I use it as an excuse if anyone would ever be stupid enough to touch me, which they would subsequently be beat down by hoards of people. I have lots of friends, who "have my back"

You should have seen the look on his face. He reached a whole new shade of white.
