Re: Dreadnought Class
Except you'd think they'd do that already and we see the GCS's warp core pop with disturbing regularity. Also if a current starship's engine goes tits up the only thing that happens is the ship is blown to shit. If this thing's reactor goes all warp travel within lightyears of it ceases.
Hell, what about the lab that had to develop this thing, any slip up and you're totally fucked. This isn't an intrinsically safe material, it's something that without technology greater than the Borg have to stabilize it WILL decay and totally fuck up your shit.

Re: Dreadnought Class
The trouble with Omega is that if you have it on hand in quantity, then a containment failure means no more warp travel for your entire civilization. You can protect it as much as you like, but no protection is perfect and that's just too much of a chance to take.
Give a man a fire, and you keep him warm for a day. SET a man on fire, and you will keep him warm for the rest of his life...

Re: Dreadnought Class
Hey, what about Omega Torpedoes. One fired at your enemy homeworld with enough molecules in it and woosh!

Re: Dreadnought Class
It's a thought, but I still come back to the concern that your Omega warhead might have an oopsie and do the same to you. There's also the problem of escalation, your enemy might decide they need the tech too and then you're both fucked, or what if they get it first and use it right away?

Re: Dreadnought Class
Exactly. Anything you can plan to do with Omega leaves you totally fucked. Honestly, I think this is one case where Starfleet's SOP in regards to it is probably not a bad idea.

Re: Dreadnought Class
Just get a machine to create it in your enemy territory

Again, see my reference about escalation, not to mention that testing such a machine would be difficult to impossible, and employing it hazardous at best.

Because your enemy wouldn't just shoot it and leave your forces trapped for easy killing later...alexmann wrote:Just get a machine to create it in your enemy territory

Re: Dreadnought Class
If you're stupid enough to mess with Omega, yeah. Or you both do the smart thing and leave it alone rather than risking the destruction of interstellar society.

Huh? I don't ever remember hearing about the methodology the builders used to create the Dyson Sphere.

Re: Dreadnought Class
Backround Info. I have sources. They say that it was constructed in chunks with a replicator then put together.
