...right, and 10 or 15 thousand people all agreed that nothing happened. All the video of it got deleted. The destruction in the city was blamed on... umm... All the sailors kept their mouths shut, the couple dozen people who died's familys all agreed to go along with it, etc.

That makes no sense.

Bay explained the battle at Mission City did not expose the Transformers to the public. "Everybody has gone ahead. It's realistic. Two weeks after the tsunami, nobody talked about it anymore. It's very weird. We decided to do the same with the Transformers. The government talks about a military thing, says all is false, that it's a joke, and people don't know what they really saw." Orci cited the Phoenix Lights incident as an inspiration for how the Transformers manage to stay covert after the previous film, and added it was an interesting idea for how would the government "hide Optimus Prime".
Hey, it happens. The Mexico City incident was just a f*ckload of giant weather balloons, right?

There's a difference between something that happened around the world, or in a another country that left no scar. This happened in the middle of a US city, caused a tremendous amount of damage that you can't cover up, and killed dozens of sue happy Americans.

People moved on after the Tsunami because... well it only killed a lot of brown people on the other side of the Earth. This isn't something that happened on the other side of the Earth or that left no physical trace afterwards.

I still think it's possible, if unlikely.

How's the roof on your library, BTW, Tsu?

Right, because nobody even recalls that little spell of rain they got in New Orleans, or anything, right?

The what with the who now?

:P

Seriously, the average Katrina victim got over $6,000 in aid. Ike: $1,400.

Cause, us Texans can pick ourselves up by our bootstraps. And then, in continuing defiance of physics, we can fly around the Earth and turn time back to before that pesky hurricane even showed up. That'll show the rest of you slackers!

My point is, that nobody in the US is saying, "What hurricane, now?"

Great. Next time I need to cover up a battle of giant alien robots in the middle of a city, I'll remember to have it by your place.

And I find it impossible. Frankly the whole idea that it just got ignored is laughable.

So is the idea that the Earth was created in six literal days, yet people still believe that.

Agreed. In an age where probably over half the population is carrying around a cell phone with a camera in it, where anyone can upload pics and video to a world wide network of computers, in a country with a free press and freedom of speech, the idea that such a battle could take place in the middle of a major city, and then be completely hushed up, is beyond absurd. Unless they were pulling out MIB neuralizers and wiping memories, and deleting all cell phone pics and vids, and grabbing memory cards and film from cameras and cam-corders, there's just no way. Plus there's all that damage, which would look nothing like any sort of natural disaster. Giant sized foot prints in the street, thousands upon thousands of bullet holes, craters from energy and ballistic explosions. Yes, not everyone would know what they were looking at, but in a city of hundreds of thousands, there would be enough people who would know what kind of damage they were seeing, battle damage. There is no way you could suppress that kind of event. It'd be as likely as supressing the 9/11 events. Word of that was getting out before the second plane even hit, and there were hundreds of videos and photos of it.

To me its the damage that kills this. They tore the shit out of several city blocks. Megatron and Optimus flew through a building. Blackhawks and Raptors were shot down over the city (they had to crash somewhere). Cars and buildings where shot to hell/crushed. Foot prints, shell holes, spent casings, Transformer debris everywhere, all the damage on the freeway, and of course more than a few bodies.

It's one thing if all the proof you've got is some grainy video. These people have wrecked buildings. How many people just filed auto insurance claims with the cause of the accident listed as "Stepped on by a giant robot."

They could have used the "it was terrorists" line.

Returning to the dinobots for a moment. Thinking it over, I really see no reason they wouldn't choose dinosaurs as their alternate form. The dinobots were always of the " fixing problems by breaking them" mindset. Being subtle, being stealthy, being anything really other than up front wrecking machines didn't sit well with them, even when it was the logical tactic.

So we could have the dinobots come to earth (or be built there by the autobots as they were in the cartoon) and decide
" No, we don't want to hide, we see no reason for it" Or I guess more accurately " Grimlock no hide, Grimlock king!"

So they pick dinosaurs as their alternate forms, they pick the biggest, baddest creatures that ever walked the planet, because that's how they see themselves, the biggest and the baddest. Now the autobots are having a shit fit, they want to keep secret and hidden when possible, but the dinobots have pretty much told them to fuck off, which is what they did when they were first built I should add.

Okay, back to the likely hood of covering up a full scale battle in a major city then.
