That's the favourite method for visiting Yanks to put their foot in it. That and indictating that they want two beers.

More seriously, I'd say that calling the wrong Scot (in the East End of Glasgow, for example) "English" is only slightly more healthy than walking up the Falls Road singing "Paras 13, Bogside nil".

Lot's of people are like that I've noticed. I had a Puerto Rician friend who after a drink or two would start swining if somebody suggestd that he was a Mexican.
I kind of like the way it's done in Hawaii. People come right up to you and ask "what are you?". That kind of question is rather taboo on the mainland, but out here a standard and fair conversation opener.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered some people out here didn't know that there were more than one type of "white" person.

Feels like Nemesis happening all over again. We see the trailer, people get all hyped-up, the film turns out to be a major let-down to many of the same people who thought it would be great.

Please note: I did NOT say it turned out to be major let-down to EVERYONE. Just to many.

Of course, this one really IS set in an alternate Universe, so I guess eliminates one area of grief caused by Nemesis.
Trailer now in high definition goodness.

Holy crap this looks pretty awesome. It has a sense of scale and grandeur to it that I've rarely glimpsed in a Trek movie. Like, we can argue all day long about whether ships are better built in space, but just tell me this isn't f**kin cool :
I don't know guys, we've not seen anything like this in Trek before. It just feels brand new but also vaguely familiar. However, although the proof of the pudding will be in the eating, I have this mental image of Elim Garak patting the Star Trek Franchise on the back and, with that wide-eyed mischievious smile, saying "There is hope for you yet"....

Let's hope this is nothing like Nemesis! Boo Nemesis! I totally understand your skepticism, man. Here's hoping it's good pudding.

I have a sudden horrible feeling that when they launch the E-nil from Ground to space they are going to do a horribly long scene ala - TMP.

With luck, it'll be short and tasteful.

Me too. I admit TMP is a slow movie, but the Enterprise deserved her beautiful entrance.

It had been what? Ten years since she was last on screen? I'm with you two; I like that part. :)

I doubt they'll spend that much time on it in this movie - it's only two hours long.

But a slow two minute sceen wouldn't take up THAT much time, and would be sooooo worth it.

That's probably more like what will actually happen. I doubt they'll have a ridculously long ship reveal slow the pace of the movie.

They'll probably justify the beauty shots of the ship by having some exposition go off at the same time.

Well they seem to have Kirk go off to Starfleet on his motorbike and he stops and has a long meaningful look at the ship being built, in the pic I posted. I can just picture that, the tortured young man taking in the sight as soulful music plays...

I'm betting that the launch is going to hark as much as possible to the Apollo missions. I can see either the impulse engines or some sort of JATO rockets firing mightily... smoke billowing... all those support gantries dropping away as the ship begins to climb, so slowly at first... pans across the hull as it accelerates away, faster and faster, punching through the clouds, heading for space.

That's how I would do it, if it were me. A starship birthed in smoke and flame!
