Scimitar vs. Sovereign
Re: Scimitar vs. Soverign
Even Romulans have to have an advance in shield technology once in a while.

Do you truly believe this BS or do you just like hearing yourself talk?Teaos wrote:The Sov had minutes at a time when it had no fire apon it. From what we see in the Battle the Simitar was under moderate to heavy fire almost constantly.

Re: Scimitar vs. Soverign
QFT. One of the reasons I dislike Nemesis so much is that even as a brainless action movie it still sucks. The battle was completely bland. Sure, there were some nice special effects, but there was no tension and no interest in it. The rampant stupidity on both sides (for example, that Fed fleet who saw the E-E go into the nebula and didn't seem to notice that it never came back out ) made the battle completely laughable, and left me with the conclusion that Shinzon is the most inept vilain in Trek history.I think all this arguing about the details of the Sovereign/Scimitar fight are moot because in the end I found the fight boring as hell. Enterprise vs. Reliant (especially the Genesis Device-like countdown), Enterprise and Excelsior vs. Klingon bird of prey, I've already seen two similar fights to this one and it failed to thrill.
In the final analysis, the fight was boring as hell.
Give me the battle from The Wrath of Khan any day. Khan didn't need a super-ship to make a great battle.

The E-E had several minutes rest from enemy fire when the Warbirds showed up.
What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

And at the time that the Scimitars shields dropped a bit was when it got pounded by E-E's QTs and phasers.

I agree. Wrath of Khan's battle was so much fun, was so full of tension that I love watching it even today. I simply cannot understand what Shizon's problem is with Picard. So he is his clone. So what? He wants to destroy Earth. Why? Khan's motivations are so much clearer, his rage so much more justified. And his people are far more sympathetic than the "We are ugly, hence we are evil" Remans.Rochey wrote:QFT. Kirk vs Khan was good, but Kirk vs Chang was better - that's what a battle against a cloak-fire ship should be like. Not that crap from Nemesis.

Re: Scimitar vs. Soverign
The first time I saw Nemesis in the theater the whole battle blew me away. I have only watched the movie twice since then, and I have had to stop watching it because it gets exponentially worse every time I watch it. I guess when I saw it the first time I was just excited to see the E-E shooting a lot and ramming s****. When I was able to pay attention past that, I inevitably noticed all the valid points made here about how stupid everyone involved was.
But we all know that. I hope I'm not the only one who thought that there were some cool aspects to the fight. I really liked the phaser burst spread around the ship to locate the Scim, and them trying to lock on as quick as posible when they connected, for instance.

Re: Scimitar vs. Soverign
Flaws aside, I still think the battle, like the movie, is very entertaining. I'm not sure wether being able to see past the flaws is a good thing or a bad thing, but there it is.

Re: Scimitar vs. Soverign
I like the battle.
Its really the only time with the possible exception of FC were we see a ship give everything it has.
Every other battle, even the one in TWOK (which is fantastic) has ships tapping away at each other with a single shot there and a single shot here.
The E-E was spewing fire from everywhere, burning out phasers and emptying torpedo stocks. Sure some of their tactics are stupid but it was just awesome to finally see a ship go all out.

I think it would have been more fun if we'd had a competent bad guy.

Re: Scimitar vs. Soverign
Unfortunalty, if we had a competent bad guy, the E-E would have lost.
