That's been his argument all along, to put it another way "I've got what I want, frag the rest of you."

It would be an ironic twist if he get injured by a drunk driver.

I think Thorin's refering specifically to drunks, rather than alcoholics - in which case he has a point that this system might encourage people to drive home when they're just under the limit (and can so start their car), rather than take a taxi because they're not sure whether they're over or under and don't feel up to driving anyway.
Only two things are infinite - the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the universe: Albert Einstein.

In that case he needs to understand that this will not eliminate all drunk driving, just reduce it. A point that was brought up a number of posts ago. Like I said to Mikey, even if it only stops 5% of drunks that's thousands of lives a year saved.

Those are for improving personal saftey.
And I will take your refusal to answer why your personal wants are more important than societies safety as a concession that you have no actual rebuttal.
You jump to 'concession' way to fast. Are you that eager for a victory? As for rebuttal, I don't see why I should be punished because someone else is an idiot.

Those are for improving personal saftey.
And so is this system. In fact, it does more than that as it also protects pedestrians and other drivers.
As for rebuttal, I don't see why I should be punished because someone else is an idiot.
So what you're saying is that this shouldn't be done because you, personaly, don't drink?

And so is a breathalyzer lockout. It protects you when your walking down the road or driving, it's just done by the other driver. Rather like a seatbelt, you could be hit by a passenger thrown from a vehicle who wasn't wearing one while your a pedestrian.

So because you don't drink there's no need for it? I have news for you, your personal wants don't out way the safety of others. This is the same sort of thinking children display.

Here's a thought, people give the bartender their keys when they order a drink, and they have to pass a breathalyzer test to get them back. Those that don't pass get to use their bus pass.
So because you don't drink there's no need for it?
No, because I don't drink there's no need for me to have one.

And how many bars are really going to go through the trouble of doing that? Moreover, it would place the bar at risk if the car were stolen (they were the ones with the keys, after all). Also, it's illegal to keep something that doesn't belong to you. It's called 'theft'.
No, because I don't drink there's no need for me to have one.
So therefore no one should have them installed? Great logic.

How about the fact that it'll save thousands of lives? Or do you care more about your own personal convinience than that?

I never said that. Stop putting words into my mouth. I'm saying I shouldn't have them installed. I have no problem with having them installed in cars owned by people who are stupid enough to drink. Although IMHO if you're stupid enough to drink, you're too stupid to drive.

How is have a built-in breathalyzer in my car going to save thousands of lives?

Because you put your personal convienance before the safety of everyone else in the country.

And yes you are a shining example of modern America, or rather your demographic. You should be proud.

I see the thought escapes you that putting them in cars before people get caught for DUI is called prevention.

If you never drink (and I seriously doubt you never will) than it doesn't, however if you sell your car it will prevent the new owner from doing it. Frankly I would love to have heard you when seatbelts and airbags came in.

You clearly don't know the first thing about me. I don't like alcohol, and I have to be careful about touching the stuff period(personal reasons). And I don't sell my cars. I drive them to their grave. And seat belts and airbags improve safety, without inconviencing anyone. A breathalyzer is inconvenient in every sense.

I don't have to know you nor do I care too. Frankly your 18 years old and the statistics are aginst you, the fact remains is that your are willing to put 30 seconds of your time ahead of everyone else.
