Bah, this is nothing. We had to wait around for the better part of a month to get the Sim kicked off.

Indeed, it's critical to get the placement of key facilities, homeworlds, shipyards etc right because they are the only worlds you can directly control (by building starbases, fortifying with standing troops, using planetary shields. These worlds you can also officially name, all other ones are just RP named). Other worlds just contribute money (from taxes) and a certain amount of resources. It's also good to know so you can set home locations for certain fleets that patrol your border.

How you doing with ship designing?

Which is all stuff I want to get to. I love world building.

Very well I think. No way to know for certain until I have reason to blow someone else up though right?

Well, it depends on the Combat rating you're working on. If you're working toward TNG era (battleships being like A Sovereign for example) then you're probably international average, lagging behind the Feds and Me I would imagine. If you're making 2500CR destroyers and above, you're doing pretty damn good.

As for not knowing, you can. Run intelligence ops, ask people for prices if they are a commercial seller, see tech specs. I try it with Big in alpha but he's far to smart. what with being the Alpha game manager and all. :(

Does depend how big. That would be ideal in a 350-500kt destroyer. If you're doing better than that you're doing great. I think I'm running 2750 for 350kt odd...something like that. Cant quite remember.

...Theres nothing wrong with being just generally more powerful. I'm having to do really very extensive rebuilding after condan (no offense) who built a battlecruiser of 3000KT with a CR of 3600. Which is poor. However, if your running much more than that in CR then i would seriously think there is something quite wrong, or you must have spent inordinate sums to get it that high. by Inordinate, I mean impossible. most races struggle doing more than that in Alpha, let alone beta.

Well right now I'm getting about a 2 to 1 ratio of combat power to kt for my frigate but only .5 to 1 for my battleship.

Buying the right tech it can be done. Quantum Torps are the huge multiplier. Once you have those pushing a very high CR happens pretty quickly. In Alpha they did not spread until much later. In Beta someone elected to sell them right away and combat ratings spiraled upward quickly as a result.

In Alpha only the UFP and Gorn had them for a very long time. In Beta it seems that everyone has them for the most part. When you combine a rapid fire launcher tech with QT's you get a very high end warship quickly.
