This probably shouldn't annoy me so much, but what's with this stupid Facebook cartoon thing. For those that don't know people are changing there profile pics on facebook to cartoon characters to help end child abuse, because for some reason this will help. What, they think some would be child abuser is going to go: "Hmm I think I'll beat a kid, oh wait someone on Facebook has changed their PP into Danger Mouse, I don't think I'll hit a child after all" WTF.
If you want to make an actual difference then donate to the NSPCC or an equivalent charity!

Awareness is as good as money. Some people have little to give as well.

Yeah, but the biggest thing is that it's not saying to raise awareness it's saying it's going to help stop it, which it won't stop anything really.

You stop it by raising awareness. Awareness = Money. Money = stopping it.
I agreed with you before I started doing diploma. Having done that has pretty much enlightened because part of it is a unit on campaigning. This kind of "spread the message thing" helped Great Ormond street Hospital a few years back. From what the hospital representative said, they estimated that they tripled their donations just by spreading around a picture on peoples social networking accounts. Whether it annoys you or not, whether you like it or not; it works.

Best way to stop it is to take the shits who do it and hang'em high.

Problem is finding evidence, and of course the courts.
Dad used to have to battle the courts on a regular basis when it comes to this kind of thing. It's stupid what they'd do to get out of putting away some horrible child beater. There was one case where a man was going to be imprisoned, but was not sent down because there was a single spelling mistake in the report to the courts. apparently, it basically shows that the prosecution are idiots cause they cant spell, and invalidated the case. (it wasn't his court report, someone elses).

I concur, last year it was considered quite popular to protest the Iranian elections and government and lament the woman killed by making your twitter profile green. We know how that worked out.

In the face of crackpot governments, or in this case super religious zealotry; social network protesting is somewhat irrelevant. However, this campaign isn't so much a protest, but an interactive advertising campaign.

Minor rant: Fucking ad on tv tropes has been pissing me off for a while now. It's a cable tv ad taking a jab at satellite by having the ad blanketed in static while is storms in the background. Which would fine except that the ad drastically slows down my laptop. It's sucking up so many resources that it actually creates a several second lag when entering text on the page, let alone what it does to any attempts to scroll. Fucking pain in the ass.

While I was reading Lighthawk's post I had the strangest feeling, like I was being watched.

Adblock Plus if you use Firefox. You can make that ad go away permanently.
