OK, so it might be true that the equation pans out to the limerick... but there's still no trace of the "funny" that you mentioned.

Ah, I understand. The term "funny" must be one of those examples of a word having a different usage between British and American English.

Limericks and rhyme tend to be cute, not "funny"...even in British humor terms. At least not after 1900.
