That's a shame, Deep, but at least you remain friends. It may be for the best in the long term.

We decided to end things before they got to bad. No reason to be uncivil about it all.

Thats what we are thinking and hoping for.

Well, my sympathies Deep. Even being a friendly mutual decision it still stings. Lord knows I've only managed to be friends with an ex once, and that took some time.

A Friends dad just up and jumped off a bridge like an hour ago. He was an alcoholic, but nonetheless, it wasn't expected. It was just odd, and quite sad. He wasn't a very close friend but, nonetheless, it was very sad... It's quite amazing how quickly life can take a turn for the worst.

Deep - sorry to hear, but glad you could at least do things the way you did.
Nick - it's not a question of whose needs come first. Suborn your own wants or needs long enough, and you end up resentful and bitter, no matter how much you don't want to be. If you constantly have to do that, it's a pretty good sign that the two of you are just headed in different directions.
And about your friend's dad... wow. Very sorry to hear it. It is unsettling. Try to be strong for your friend - there's no way to make sense of it, but you can be a big help by just listening.

Unfortunately, alcoholism is a deadly disease. He likely wasn't in his right mind, not that THAT really helps.

Yeah, it doesn't, but yeah, I'll be there if he needs to talk, as I always am for anyone. Everyone needs a listening ear sometimes. And I'm usually available for them.

wow, that's depressing. We had a couple kids in our high school die this last year, unexpected deaths really do hit hard. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your friend Nick.

Thank you all. Another friend of mine is with him today, and I wish I could help him out more, but I never really talk to him, however my friend, who is a good friend of his, is with him today, trying to comfort him, she just doesn't know what to do to help.

No clue, but I highly doubt it.

I read somewhere that it actually isn't all that common to leave notes behind.

True, but I've found that it's harder for people to deal with and accept if they always have this great big "WHY" hanging over their heads.

Yeah, that does make sense, my guess on why is because he was an alcoholic and was depressed.
