I went on "real" roller coasters for the first time in my life on Monday. Prior to that I had only been on the kiddie ones -- until I got too big for them....

I posted this in another thread, but it bears another look. I highly recommend
Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure, the tallest, fastest roller coaster in the world - a
first-person video. In fact, Nitro, Superman, El Toro... almost any of the coasters at Six Flags GA are great.

Give me another 18years
. A bunch of incoming freshman for my university decided we should all get together before college starts so we spent the day at Hershey Park. I hit up all the wooden coasters, Lightening Racer (both tracks), Wild Cat, Comet -- after the initial "HOLY SHIT!" moment looking down the hill, it was actually quite enjoyable.

I love Hershey park. Haven't been in a while.

We used to make several trips there a summer until my father effectively substituted a couple of Mets games a season (the baseball season is mostly in summer). Since then we've had a few week-long vacations in which we visited an amusement park along the way, either at piers at an NJ resort town (Wildwood) or the last time, at Disney in Florida. Hence, I haven't been on coasters much recently, and specifically haven't seen GA in some time, accordingly losing familiarity with the latest generation of coasters there. I'm sure that if I went there tomorrow I would barely recognize the place.
It's still fun to get to the games (and easier on my aging father
) and the new ballpark the Mets opened this season is amazing, and an enormous improvement over their former home, though it'd be nice if the team's management would grow a neuron or two - but just the same I sometimes miss the rides.

I haven't been to Hershey Park in a cuple of years, which is a shame since my sister-in-law lives pretty close to it. I always enjoyed it, even though the coasters aren't quite up to Great Adventure "oh sh*t" factor.

if you want an "oh sh*t" factor, you have to ride the
"SheiKra" at Busch Gardens (Tampa)...It takes you up 200ft, turns you 90* toward the ground and drops you....It's particularly freeky from the front row, b/c the part that connects to the track is behind you, so the track dissappears beneath you before you suddenly drop.
definatly #2 on my list.

Dude - Kingda Ka does that, but over 500 feet up and at over 100 mph.

I cannot stand theme parks. Waiting in line for god knows how long to go on a 13 second ride? (example being Stealth that everyone here rages about). Fuck that. Unless my wait to get on is under 13 seconds (which is a statistical impossibility with how popular it is) then i am not going to even bother.

How about 0 seconds? My mom won a radio contest to go to Disneyland when I was 9. The best part? Only other winners allowed in the park that day. Disneyland is cool, but a little strange with only 1,000 people in the whole park.
Also, my uncle worked for
GTE, and I attended
Knott's Berry Farm, and
Six Flags' Magic Mountain on a few other occasions with only company employees and family. Nothing better than walking straight onto a roller coaster, finishing, then walking right back onto it.

meh...I just never really found the enjoyment in spending a few seconds, minute at the most, going very fast on a track. I might as well go on a train.

That statement, to me, suggests that you haven't ridden any high-performance coasters with novel designs.
From Magic Mountain:
Ninja
Colossus
Revolution (one of my favorite rides ever
)
Viper
From Knott's:
Boomerang (those negative G's are a b*tch)
And, from Universal Studios (Islands of Adventure) Florida:
Hulk
Rollercoasters are awesome.

I'm not a fan of rollercoasters myself.
The theme parks in Florida have some pretty good rides. I went there a few years ago.
