I don't think it was that recent; but I do sometimes refer to him as "Governor Farouk."

I am so fucking sick of hearing about the movie Idiocracy.

Talking about the movie Jackass 3D on another forum and within a dozen posts of the OP you've got multiple people moaning about "Here comes Idiocracy!" Now I get it, Jackass is not for everyone. However I made the comment that maybe people should take the stick out of their asses and accept that sometimes something can be stupid fun and it doesn't herald the fall of Western Civilization.

Now I am apparently an idiot who can't tolerate people not liking what I like.

What's "Idiocracy?" Besides the current state of the U.S., I mean.

It's a movie that some people take way too seriously. The people who do also tend to be the ones who try to point out how horrible something in society is by comparing it idiotic movie like it was somehow prophecy.

Really? That sounds less intellectual than Jackass.

Maybe they'd have a point if the movie wasn't based on a satire that's so blatantly obvious that it's painful.

That's sort of what I'm getting at. It's like using Dumb and Dumber as a critique of the school system.

So, there's a bunch of people running around acting like the intelligentsia, simply because they like a movie about a debased intelligentsia - no matter that the movie itself is based on a premise as subtle as a skillet to the skull? Am I close to the mark?

And I'm an asshole for being sick of it, yeah.

Hmm. The presence of a Wilson is enough to make me think very little of the people who consider it a philosophy.

It's a mildly amusing movie in the vein that Dumb and Dumber or other movies of that ilk can have a chuckle in between all the groans at how moronic it is. The movie itself is so ridiculously over the top that I don't see how you can take it seriously. Sure, there might be some small nuggets of valid commentary but they're buried under such a steaming pant-load that it drowns them out. I don't know how anyone can take it seriously without being the kind of self appointed intellectual who would watch it then tut-tut about how the other idiots and slobs in the country are going to drag well read and reasonable people like him down with them. Even I don't think so little of my common man to take that crap seriously and I think everyone here knows just how low my opinion of humans in general is.

I am an asshole, disliking Idiocracy being brought into every conversation like it's valid social commentary isn't one of the reasons I am one though.

I think the population of people who perform Jackass stunts in their backyards is less of a problem with society than people who appoint themselves as the world's intellectuals because... they think they are.

Then we find ourselves in agreement.

Besides, if you can't at least chuckle at the idea of a 30 year old man/boy being strapped into a porta potty then the entire contraption being reverse bungied a hundred feet into the air I think it might be safe to say that you're dead inside.

Trying to jump onto a roundabout by driving on the wrong side of the road to pass stationary traffic is not acceptable, even if you are in a BMW. Neither is expecting the poor guy coming off said roundabout and almost hitting you head on to reverse in order to let you pass.
