For those in school, or when you were in school, did you ever help people out just to help them out, or is there usually an alterior motive behind it?

Define help them out? If they didn't understand something, then yes. Do their work for them? No.

If they don't understand something I mean. Some girl asked me for help with hw, I helped her, and now I'm her best friend apparently, girls are really odd.
