I can't really adress most of these issues, but how about Canada? Credit Cards can't charge you any interest here if you repay within the first 30 days of your transaction (and THEN they retroactively charge you the interest for those days).

But I think it just links back to the whole "I hate banks" mentality. Frakking banks with frakking credit cards who are just on the lookout to frak us dry while completely ignoring the frakking reason they exist to begin with and go for the stupid money, creating a lot of useless trouble for the society they leech on.

A bank is there to provide financial services to the population, on a retail level. An investment bank is there to provide financial services to start up business or ventures.

A bank's responsibility is no to provide credit to anyone who doesn't ask. It's not to push to provide mortgage to every homeless Dick & Harry who just can't pay it. Banks simply forgot that they had to go only in secure business rather than try to go the extra buck by taking risky customers, and then forcing "security procedures" to shaft us BECAUSE they picked up that kind of customer.

If there was a "high-quality bank" that treats you like a frakking human being, but also made it actually HARD to actually be allowed to join it because of hard credit requirement, income, etc... I would join it immediately. But no, frakking banks will make everybody wait 2 days for a government check.

Huh, looks like banks are pissing everyone off. Well here's one more rant against them then.

Me and the wife are officially looking for a new bank, as our old one pretty much just stole about $200 from us. Long and short of it is, we wrote a check that was for more than what was in our checking, but that very night (within 4 hours of writing the check*) we transferred enough money from our savings to cover the difference. However for whatever reason the transfer didn't go through for two days, and we got hit with over draft fees. Then we got hit with over draft fees for purchases made on our debit cards the day after the transfer but before the system actually processed it. And then just because they hated us, we actually got an over draft fee for our over draft fees (dead fucking serious). And after a couple "discussions" with them about it, they only agreed to refund us $50 of the 250 they took, because "We have received refunds on fees this year already." Yeah, that was the other time we got over draft fees because they processed things out of order, that was a refund for the mistake they made.

Fuckers.

*And before anyone says anything, yes this does mean we wrote a check that our account couldn't cover, but it's a check, there was no way it would be cashed before the next day at earliest, and when we transferred the money to cover it, that transfer was fucking time stamped that night. Yet it took two days to actually be applied to our accounts? WTF?

I say sue them. Seriously, frakking bring them in court, make them pay a lawyer 2000$ to save up 200$. They can't claim it takes X days to process a check, then turn around and say you pay draft fees because this time, it took them X-2 days. That's just fucking you over with the numbers just for the very purpose of fucking you over.

Seriously. Take them to court, and eventually withdraw and leave them with the fees they paid their lawyer. Maybe you won't get your money, but you will get satisfaction.

I feel you. My mom won a small jackpot in Vegas and sent me 3K to help me out. I deposited the check on a thursday. They told me the funds would clear in three business days. The following friday, the funds still haven't cleared, and the bank branch couldn't explain why (it was held at the main office).

I call the main office and after nearly an hour on the phone, getting transferred and runaround three different ways, I get a guy on the phone.

"Mr. Nelson, we just needed to double check something. Is this your mother that wrote you the check?"

"Yes it is" I reply with a hint of nerves (my mom HAS been known to do shady stuff before)

"Oh, ok. That's all we needed to verify. I'm clearing the funds as we speak."

???? So only my mom can write me a check the bank will cash ???

Well, a fund transfer from Las Vegas can be fishy, as you well know.

However, it is no excuse for them. YOU shouldn't have to run after them to get YOUR fucking money. THEY should call you and ask for confirmation of the origin of the fund. YOU are the fucking customer, THEY are the fucking service provider.

You should be able to charge the bank for the time they withhold your money. They would be more than happy to speed up processes.

Try Barclays.

First, they failed to set up a direct debit properly to pay off my credit card (also Barclays) from my current account. With in a day of the payment being overdue, the credit card department set a debt collection agency on me to recover the £10.97 I owed on it.

Said debt collection company then called my home phone and mobile phone at half hour intervals for 2 days, only it was one of those call centres that automatically dial numbers using a computer then transfer you when you answer. Except when they don't have enough operaters and you get silence on the end of the phone. When i finally did get someone on the other end, they asked me to give them my bank account details - the thing banks keep telling you not to give out to people who ring / email you. I finally got one of the operators to tell me who they were calling from and what the issue was, and then called the bank direct and sorted it out. The phonecalls stopped 2 days later.

Well, currently I am having so much stress in my life, and none of it is related to anything that is actually avoidable

First off, I care too much, and before you say there's no such thing, I have known this girl and talked to her for less than a week, and I know of almost every problem she has had in the last 3 years... And yes, I asked, and got her to let it out because she was worked up about it. After that I find out that she is having trouble in classes, well, going to classes, so I'm making sure she doesn't skip them. To top it all off, it turns out that I've been so incredibly kind to her, that she likes me, and I honestly don't reciprocate the feeling, I have an interest in someone else to begin with, as well as the fact that my best friend in the college really likes her, and she doesn't reciprocate those feelings. So to quote Stitch, I am stuck in an awkward triangle of love, and he's right. The worst part is she is so incredibly sweet about it, I feel bad, and feel as if I may have "led her on" accidentally when I was letting her vent about everything and trying to be kind to her, but I think I may have overdone it and made her think I felt something that I didn't. The worst part is that Im actually starting to like her a good deal, which makes me feel pretty bad... Ugh, emotions need to stop, Im thinking of becoming a Vulcan currently, so I can control all my emotions.

Second of all, my best friend outside of college, also the girl I like, has an aunt that is currently in the hospital suffering from Kidney failure, and almost assured to die within the next week. The worst part is this is the second time this aunt has been hospitalized, as well as the 4th family member to be seriously hospitalized within the last year, and she's had 1 of them die as well. And she's taking it incredibly well, but I know that she will break down, and honestly, I will be there, I just don't know if I can actually hold up to all the stress due to the different problems I'm dealing with.

And Third of all, I can't stop thinking about my past, which because of people mentioning stuff from their past that correlates to my past, I keep thinking about it, and I always go back to this one girl that I really liked back when I was like 10-14 and then she kind of disappeared, and I can't find out where she disappeared to, I'm sure she's fine, I just kind of want to know where she is. As well as that I keep thinking about all the crap that I've done in the past and I've been analyzing how it shaped me. So in the midst of all this stress on me, I have inadvertently decided to go on a mission of self discovery...

I wish my life wasn't so complicated. :?
