0601 Day Three:

The Agent regards Karibi and Phebia each in turn before replying, "we were wrong, or deceived. Which it is doesn't matter, The Seer was found after you left; dead." He turns to Trask and grunts, "Interrogator Ferringo and it's not demonic, hence the lack of equipment. It's Xenos or at least I suspect it is, passing as daemonic." He tosses his rosette to your parties Tech Priest, "here, I know you don't believe me. Plug that into whatever you've got under that robe and check it."

Ferringo offers Milo a curt nod in response to his request for privacy.

"Dead? Pity," Phebia said with absolutely no sincerity.

Phebia snatched the rosette from the air and headed back to camp, finding Haxta she nudged the tech priest with her foot. "Time to wake up sleeping beauty. We've got work to do."

Haxta started awake with a mumbled,"...finished yesterday." She blinked slowly, coming back to reality. "What's going on?"

"Our Malleus friends are back." She held up the rosette. "And they want you to confirm his identity before we get too chummy."

"Aristarchus is dead?" Milo said with a remarkable lack of concern. "Well, he was seen either as a threat to... whoever is planning whatever we're looking for, or as a liability inside the operation. Either way, it changes nothing save preventing us from having to compile evidence against one more person."

"What's going on," Trask said to the tech-priest, "is that Aristarchus is dead, and we're about to be herded onto a couple of troop transports with an alleged Malleus interrogator and a squad of stormtroopers in order to do... something as yet undefined. Would you be so kind as to plug that rosette -" he nodded toward Phebia - "into your data-slate and verify its authenticity?"

"It's the real thing," Haxta said, having accepted the rosette and plugged it in. "Got his biometrics, even a skull scan."

Phebia nodded. "He checks out," she relayed to the rest of the group. She turned back to the Malleus agent, "Now, care to fill in some details?"

0602 Day Three:

Ferringo takes his rosette back before sitting himself down by the now smoldering fire, "ever hear that bedtime story about the Dream Eaters? Men with bodies made from maggots?"

Trask glanced at Karibi, then answered Ferringo, "Why don't you pretend we've never heard of the Throne-damned things, and tell us everything about them and how they relate to the new cathedral... including what you know about xeno columns of misshapen, unholy flesh that float through the air and attack camping acolytes?"

0602 Day Three:

Ferringo stares into the fire for a few moments before answering. "Their an ancient race, possibly pre-dawn. Our contact goes back to before the Great Crusade and they are utterly evil, carrion eaters with a preference for the flesh of intelligent beings. They are known to cause or take advantage of heresy to further their taste for human flesh and brains, it has a sort of narcotic effect on them. Those columns you mention are their servitors, of a sort. Those of us in the Inquisition that know of them refer to them as the Slaugth, though most of the information is restricted to those high up. We believe they may have an empire beyond the Halo Stars."

As he finishes, he gets to his feet. "I encountered them years ago on another matter, they killed most of our party. They are a danger of course but they represent everything that the Xeno is. I wish your help, you will be well rewarded; a ship and means to pursue these creatures and perhaps items of more personal importance." At the last he looks pointedly at Milo. "All this has been authorized by my master."

"Lovely," Phebia muttered. "So if this problem isn't demonic what is these creature's interest in this hell hole?"

"If they're so powerful why bother mucking with things? It's not like this world could offer any meaningful resistance. Just come in and eat everyone."

0604 Day Three:

"That's not how they work, they don't seem to want direct confrontation with the Imperium. Besides you've seen them and their minions, they aren't exactly discrete and even if this world doesn't offer much resistance, the wrath of the Imperium would be swift and brutal."
