I don't know. Janeway often acted like Cain for jerkass behavior, but had moral breakdowns like Roslin did. I think it will be safe to state that Janeway incarnated all the bad sides of these characters?

I am sorry but Cain look like a competent officer. She has the respect of her crew (and the fear of some of them but essentially the respect) and she is efficient: how many toaster are disabled by Cain attack? I guess she is as good as Adama in Tactic, but Adama is better in management. (but she is not totally bad: look at Razor).

Janeway is not good in Tactic & Management (no promotion for Kim, enseign for 7 years! ^^)

Not saying she's a perfect fit but she's closer to Cain with her obsessiveness and general attitude.

That is why I said Janeway represent the worst parts of these characters.

But she hasn't, for me, equivalent in BSG. Janeways is the only of her "species" ^^.

She does seem to have a distinct brand of caffeine depravation induced, premenstral tension influenced, morally indecisive lunacy.

I think a lot of the problem with Janeway stemmed from her being the First Female Captain. You guys today probably don't realise just how BIG a deal that was at the time. Apparently all sorts of backstage battles went on against the studio who wanted a male captain... and then when the lead actress dropped out after a day or two of filming, a LOT of people thought Janeway would be recast as a male.

But having got a female Captain, it's like they were terrified to depict her as in any way flawed. We were constantly told that she was the very best and brightest Starfleet had, and the eriters basically seem to have decided that she could do no wrong. But rather than actually depict her as a great captain - like Picard for example, who had his flawed moments but also had gravity and class - on Voyager, Janeway would do any batshit crazy thing the plotline needed her to, and then we'd just be told that she was great. Which, ironically, just made her look like an awful captain.

In other words, they failed to show and instead told. Classic flaw there.

Garret was resolute, but a lot more thoughtful about taking to the field.
