My reference to SW was ment in a broader way to show that you can get superior results with no more money.

The suit I think sucks. I think they shouldnt have done it at all rather than do it badly. But I am aware they couldnt have done it much better (Probably could have made the eyes better) but that doesnt mean I have to accept it. Do what Lucas did and forget ones you cant pull off yet and focus on the ones you can.

No ones asking you to accept it, their asking you to prove that they could do better. Acceptance is all subjective anyways, I think that aside from TOS most of Trek sucks. You might have a different opinion, that's fine.

At that time and with that budget, I really don't see how it'd be possible to do the Gorn better.

But that was part of my point. They couldnt have done the Gorn a lot better so they shouldnt have done it at all.

You're saying the because of the times they shouldn't have done it at all but that would have counted for most everything that they did. Most of that show was adhock and its silly to look back with todays standards and judge them on something that really wasn't their fault to begin with.

I find most of the FX very tollerable for most of TOS. But the Gorn just really rubs me the wrong way.

I guess thats fair enough. I hated the Kirk vs every female in the galaxy bit. That bugged me.

Most of TOS would probably not have been made with those standards.

Indeed. Just becuase something can't be done perfectly, doesn't mean it shouldn't be done at all. Back then, that Gorn was the peak of special effects.
Jaws is just a giant rubber shark, and looks incredibly cheesy. Does that mean the film should never have been made?

Jaws was sucessful because the hardly showed the shark, instead using the threat of it to produce tension. They could have done with using a similar method to cover up much of TOS' poor effects. I do agree with the fundamental principle that poor SFX is not a reason not to do something though

But it wasn't that terrible. I really don't see the problem?

Neither do I. And to add something else I thought of, with the attitude of 'I can't do it perfectly, so I shouldn't do it' would mean most innovations/inventsions/discoveries wouldn't occur.

The envelope has to be pushed. And the Gorn was the first of many shoves.

Jaws was done tastefully. And it looked a lot better than the Gorn even when we did see it.

Oh please thats totally different. Not making a crappy tv show because you dont have the budget/time/skill to do it right is a totally different thing to invention.

It's the same attitude.
