Wow, they really screwed the pooch on the Galactica. She's 1438.64m according to Battlestar Wiki, not 615 meters.

That's mentioned in the article. Someone pointed it out to them so they're using the old Galactica not the new one.Cpl Kendall wrote:Wow, they really screwed the pooch on the Galactica. She's 1438.64m according to Battlestar Wiki, not 615 meters.

I...really need to pay more attention to detail. I didn't even notice it was the old clunker.me,myself and I wrote: That's mentioned in the article. Someone pointed it out to them so they're using the old Galactica not the new one.

Wow.
But, like many have said, I guess maybe Starfleet should be able to build larger ships.
Its a huge resource cost though.

They should be more than capable of expending such resources. They've a massive amount of territory and resources available to them. If anything, this larger size makes more sense.

Yes, and perhaps now they will be able to go up against a Star Destroyer.Rochey wrote:They should be more than capable of expending such resources. They've a massive amount of territory and resources available to them. If anything, this larger size makes more sense.
Do you think the rest of the fleet is similarly larger?

Re: Stats/Information on the new Enterprise
Presumably. Larger size indicates greater power and strength. Thus a battleship would need to be larger than the nEnterprise to fullfill its role.

Re: Stats/Information on the new Enterprise
Look at the military production capacity of Earth currently. Now imagine if we had significant colonies on other planets/moons in the solar system, easy access to the resources of the asteroid belt and other planetary bodies. Multiply that capacity across several hundred member worlds. The resources to produce a Constitution class starship are pretty paltry in that context.

Re: Stats/Information on the new Enterprise
Yeah I thought so but then not necessarily so. Maybe approx 700 metres is about the largest size you can have before the starships become unpractically large and cross into the realm of starbases and cities in space. I expect that with more modern technology the amount and size of machinery and nacelles also decreases resulting in internally larger ships without actually getting any bigger.GrahamKennedy wrote: Indeed. I would imagine it would be in the region of 1,500 metres long.
I thougt the constitution class was more or less the battleship equivalent of the area? Sure they called it a starship, cruiser, explorer basically anything but battleship but at the end of the day they still were the largest and best armed ships around, were they not? (if you do not count semi-canonical dreadnoughts).Rochey wrote:Presumably. Larger size indicates greater power and strength. Also FYI, do not know if those are offical since the nacelles look really strange:

That is not the ship from the new film, it's some fan built attempt at making it from plastic by the look of it.Atekimogus wrote: Also FYI, do not know if those are offical since the nacelles look really strange:

If you look at the text underneath it reads "production model."

That's what the guy put on it. He could draw up/make anything and call it the "Production Model".

Well apart from the Nacelles which shouldn't point down but be horizontal it sure looks spot on. Maybe fanwork but rather well done imho.

Re: Stats/Information on the new Enterprise
No it doesn't. The front of the Nacelles are blue for a start, the real one they are silver. The shape is all wrong, they are much more bulky at the front end than these are, plus the back is missing the fins. The fins look a little like Sydney opera house and they glow white when the ship is about to jump into warp.
