Come on, you're Jesus the son of God. Do you ride a horse or do you ride a fucking raptor?

I'd ride a sandworm.
Wait, wrong franchise.

Same divine progeny principle applies, though.

Thing is, in this franchise, they've got access to the internet and have some sort of compulsion to reformat themselves to blend in, so no real excuse for Dinobots.

They went balls to the wall in the middle of a major city and several thousand sailors helped disposed of the bodies. I think blending in is kind of out.

Except they're still unknown. The writers said the government basically told people it didn't happen, and most people went along with it.

The dinobots were never meant to blend in, they were meant to kick serious ass. The autobots built them on earth to give themselves a needed edge against the decepitcons, they didn't give a single thought towards making these guys stealthy, just making them as strong and tough as possible.

Yeah, but then why
dinosaurs? Why not just some war machine as an alternate form?
And, "because dinosaurs are cool" isn't a good enough point in this argument.
If the writers can't come up with a realistic reason to include them, the Dinobots aren't going to show up in the films.

Hell, dinosaurs are cool is about all there is to excuse them. Remember, we're talking about something thought up for an 80s cartoon, realistic was never a consideration.

Oh, yeah, in the cartoons, of course. Megatron turned into a
pistol, for f*ck's sake.
I was talking about the fact that they're considering them for the third
movie, but they can't figure out a way to incorporate them because they
are going for realism in the film series.

Sadly, Megatron turning into a pistol was probably the least of the show's crimes against common sense. At least that you can
an excuse for.
A realistic way of getting the dinobots into the 3rd film...okay, have them be what they were meant to be, pure ass kicker who don't give a damn about blending in. So they decided to choose the biggest, most intimidating things they can find on earth. A quick web search leads them to selecting dinosaurs. Given their lack luster IQ, you could certainly believe that they failed to realize that dionsaurs are extinct.
