With a good bottle of wine of course

On that same trail of transporters, beaming in anesthetics, and other things to juggle with biochemistry, so the attackers would become incapable of combat. Instant hangovers, dizziness, sleeping hormones, of course the innuendo-inducing hormones, simulating heart attacks by messing with the vessel system, and so on. Or just beaming in several stop-gaps that clog all arteries towards the brain.

again though a transporter wepon would be pretty hard to produce and fairly expensive, and then depending on if your main objective is beaming organs out or things in you face many other problems.

The tech doesn't even have to be perfect. As long as the transport is completed, either way. I mean, missing half a leg is just as bad as missing an entire leg. having a vessel leading to your brain partially blocked is just as bad as one fully blocked. In any case, messing with the enemy's body is seriously going to incapacitate that enemy. Even fail-beaming, like in TMP, orbital office would have been sufficient to kill someone.

Transporters are notoriously unreliable in combat situations. I'd hate to rely on a weapon which I already know stands a good chance of not working.

The Vidiian's managed it with their transporter/tricorder/particle pistol thingymajiggy.

We're not theorizing a system built by Vidiians, though.

True. All I'm saying is, that someone made it possible, so why not starfleet?

You have a point. It is, after all, "Sci-Tech of the Extreme Future!". It's possible that the Feds may be able to build such a device in, say, a century.

Or you could just whistle up some shotguns and ventilate their heads, guaranteed to work under all conditions.

Yeah, you could just do that.

You even have more useful variations in the settings than a phaser - full bore or choked, .410/10 ga./12 ga., and birdshot/buckshot/slugs.

to be honest though, the vidiians had to get pretty close with their verstion, and I believe they usually sedated the person, but I could be wrong

Well, there weapon had a purpose, to harvest internal organs for use later on. We wouldn't NEED that kind of resolution. Just basically beam out gobs of body matter, and then, presto!

true.
I was just expressing some of the limitations we'd seen on the tech.
