Understandable. I'm talking about secondary school courses (the ones I do), which lasts six years. So that's probably why we cover a shitload of stuff.

They are very region-centric, though, I agree. We learn damn all about most parts of US history over here. All we cover is a brief glance at the War of Independence, not a thing about the Civil War, we cover your involvement in WW2, the Cold War, the civil rights movement, the Space Race, Vietnam, and the cultural influence of the USA.

Hell, the Civil War is still something most people over here don't want to talk about (or have limited knowledge of), in my experience.

I can see why, particularly in the south, they like to pretend it didn't happen. We just don't cover it because it had feck all effect on us.

Pretty much, yeah. Or most of the thousands of European wars.

A lot of the "wars" and "battles" in history seem to be just a few dozen people tossing rocks at each other.

That's why I only remember the interesting ones.

IDK, though - my world history education started with Middle-Eastern neolithic (pre)history up to the mid-1970's - of course, that was over years of coursework, and recent archaeology (such as the Harappan and Jericho city-building) were omitted.

well the non-AP class here starts with the beginnings of civilization in europe....the AP class does so much more with the Renessance-Present time though that there isn't time in the year for all that....

Really? Why is it such a sticky subject? I'd think you'd study that in more dietail since WWII is basicly the continuation of WWI...

Well like I said above, WWI and WWII are basicly the same war with a dead period in between....It's basicly the same people fighting on the same sides (yes there were some minor changes, but for the most part), and it was over pretty much the same reasons (being colonozation and Territory), and the MAINE causes (Militirism, Alliances, Imperialism, Nationalism, Economics)
