Designing a vessel is easy. Making it unique on the other hand is hard.

It doesnt necessarily need to be unique in every way. I tend to borrow little bits from here. All of my RSE are loosely based on another ship for stats. the T'Caren was based on the Klingon BOP, the Verata was based on the Norexan.

With UFP, all you need to do is design an effective replacement ship for the brief your making. Make it purpose designed. UFP tried too much to be Jack of all trades. It dont work.

Designing the Paladin was complicated due tothe way I went about it. Having it designed by multiple people.

But in general it is stilh hard to make an original believeable ship. Sure just making a replacement is easier but it is also more boring.

What Thorin was suggesting was upping the current ships to fit a new tech. why not just create a new vessel and keep the originals?

Because they already have ships, they just don't use them very well. I'd always imagined that the Sovereign, for example, was made to be a battlecruiser (a poor one, albeit) for its lifetime. It was made with upgrades in mind, the same with the Prometheus. Other ships, like the Galaxy and Defiant, don't. Just my opinion. Though I quite like my new Galaxy - I've made it with a sort of battleship in mind - big, bulky, slow(ish), and powerful.

But re creating new ships - for SF, they already have pretty much every ship to fit a role, apart from the Paladin, which is why it had probably more work required. Creating a battlecruiser would take the Sovereign and build on it. Creating a scout would take the Intrepid and build on it. Creating a destroyer would take the Defiant and build on it... etc etc.

So, when are we actually going to get this on a roll?

Teaos wrote:Ok people I am probably goign to start Gamma mission this time tomorrow. I have to update the crew lists with the lattest bios along with the ship write ups and the station we are using along with a more complee mission brief. Then I have to write up the start post, so it might be two days since there is quite a lot for me to do. Depends on how busy I am tomorrow.

You know that's more helpful when I know when he said that.

If there's any spare spaces on any of the ships as you go through the crew roster, can you stick my guys down in some spaces Teaos, please; just find anything suitable, I've got the following (with a short appropriate description to help in positioning):

Lieutenant Commander Anker Zionex: former fighter pilot, possible Chief of Operations etc
Lieutenant Commander Grahame Niles: former XO of tactical department, possible [crappy] ship XO, chief tactical officer etc
Master Chief Petty Officer Charles Nelson: former tactical engineer, possible engineer/operations officer etc
Lieutenant Smith: former science dude, astrometrics, Chief Science officer, etc
Lieutenant Gilliteo: pretty much anywhere except engineering/helm
Lieutenant Jones: as above

So everyone knows - I'm going to Leeds festival (you may have seen the list of bands I gave inc. Rage, Metallica etc) tomorrow early (5am, ugh!), and won't be back til Monday at earliest, so you miss my early posting. Mikey in particular - feel free to use my character in the same sort of light as he was used before - but more experienced, more at ease etc - and the same with my Chief Engineer (Liam, Jonathan's middle-brother).

Well, don't call me unhelpful for pointing out the bit that you missed.

PS Thorin - I'm sure at least one of the Hewer bros. will be included. Remember, we still have our fighter complement, if any of your guys want to remain space jockeys.

We still using the old peregrenes? That should be one of our next projects you know. Creating an effective fighter.

Actually, we have a new fighter developed for the original Daystrom mission. It may need a tweak, but they're relatively young. Nothing to really bother with.

Agreed. The fighters are alright as they are, IMO.
