Phebia gave Marco a slightly annoyed look, "Couldn't be what? Keeping things to yourself does us no good."

Karibi sighed and shrugged before answering.
"It just looked somewhat similar to a character from a story that my mother used to tell me when I was a kid. As I said, it's probably nothing."

Phebia pressed him. "What story? What was it based on?"

"I can't remember the story now. It's been decades since I last heard it." Marco replied, frowning in thought. "They were called the Dream Eaters. They were a race of men said to have bodies made out of maggots, shrouded in cloaks with a mind of their own. My mother used the story to scare the wits out of my brother and I whenever we misbehaved."

"Lovely," Phebia snarked as her lips pulled up in disgust. She looked around and picked up a small pebble. "Maggots, mucus...," and she tossed the pebble into a small bit of the goo. "Dream eaters? Unholy apparitions who plague the dreams or, visions, of people?"

Phebia gave Milo a slightly annoyed look, "Couldn't be what? Keeping things to yourself does us no good."
Used as he was to Phebia's needling, Milo was confused by her annoyed glare seemingly in reply to a comment which someone else had made. He shrugged, ignored it, and said to Karibi, "Enough fables have a kernel of truth to not discount this story so lightly."

"Quite right." Marco nodded in reluctant agreement. "Many myths do indeed have their basis in facts, simply becoming more and more distorted as they were passed down through the generations. I strongly suggest we keep more than one person on watch tonight."

Phebia sighed. "My kingdom for an auspex."

Enrick continued scanning the area. "Ghost stories and dark figures in the night won't help us. We need to either find this thing and kill it or move the hell on."

"Well I don't see anything, not even tracks to follow. I say we rest, double up on the guard, and move out at first light."

2117 Day Two:
"Aye, we stand watch with you tonight. One of my men up all the time." The leader of the hunting party turns back and returns to the camp, explaining his wishes to his comrades. There is some discussion back and forth between them, until the three retire to their tents, bringing their weapons. The leader retrieves his musket from his mount and returns to the fire, facing out toward the road.

Taking one last long look out into the darkness Phebia says, "I'll take first shift. I've got some questions for our friends. Anyone else?"

Haxta gave a somewhat longing look at the back of the half-track, thinking it'd be rather more comfortable to be inside, away from the primitive outdoorsness of the campsite, and hopefully hidden from whatever might be lurking. However, she had no desire for her fellows to consider her afraid, even if the idea of ghostly figures creeping in the dark did frighten her.
" I'll stand watch too," she said.

Phebia trudged back to the fire, keeping a wary eye out for anything else. She took a spot across the fire from the leader of the ferals and sat down.

Taking up a spot a seat removed from Phebia, Haxta took a final nervous glance about, then started to carefully move through her gear and equipment, examing each piece and preforming the necessary prayers and rites of repair and maintaince to keep the spirits appeased and the parts working.
