Ung..........last night I went for dinner at the food court at the mall, and about 20 or so idiots decided it would be fun to talk with fake irish accents.

NYC has a big parade every St Patrick's Day (and that cathedral named after him every day :P ). Due to class I didn't have much of an opportunity to do much celebration, but my mom, who is American by birth but 100% Irish by ancestry (both her parents over from Ireland) had a loaf of Soda bread home. I had a few pieces with butter.

ya, we had a parade around here too...it really wasn't all that great, other than a couple of the floats forgot to check their clearence first. there were two floats that broke because they hit the cross walk, and then a guy standing on top of a party bus got smacked in the head...it was funny as hell.

As I understand it, far more than you do. From what I'm told, over there it's (at best) celebrated as simply another saint's day, if at all.
Not really. Short of the standard festivals (Christmas, Easter, etc) it's the biggest holiday over here. Everyone gets a day off, and there's always a big parade through the centre of town, which makes it fucking impossible to get in and out of the city.
Of course, being Irish, the day's generaly considered an excuse to find the nearest pub and get completely pissed.
Over here, it's become a huge celebration of Irish-American culture and a big party day (I sometimes refer to it as "National Barfight and Vomit Day.") Most folks, even the ones not of Irish descent, have a lot of beer (dyed green, of course) and a dinner of corned beef, cabbage, and boiled potatoes. Many municipalities have huge parades involving the local police pipe and drum bands, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh, etc.
Sounds a lot like what happens over here. Didn't know it was celebrated over there, though I suppose it makes sense considering the amount of Irish people who emigrated there over the centuries.

Exactly. The parade in which I drove featured as many or more American flags as Irish ones. Of course, it also featured a lot of public drinking and men in skirts. One cool thing, though, was that my car was lined up waiting to enter the parade route right behind the trailer that was carrying local legend cover band Shorty Long and the Jersey Horns, so while we were waiting we were treated to a pretty cool impromptu concert of funk and blues-rock.

Would be better if we could convince all the irish women to flash.

Well, the drinking helps with that.

You lot celebrate St. Patrick's Day over there? Cool.
We do as well. Any excuse to get smashed.

Well, my cat is now limping. Probably because she's too fat (she has the frame of a 6 lb cat, but weighs 15 lbs). She also likes to run and jump like she is a 6 lb cat. I just hope it isn't a serious injury. She's young, and very lovable (practically doglike). When my other cat was getting old, and as it turned out, getting cancer (somewhere around page 250... give or take 50, she's mentioned), this well groomed cat shows up at our door. She meowed to us, she would encourage us to pet her, and her nails were neatly trimmed; we knew she was not one of our neighbors feral cats. So we put an add in the paper. Since it was winter, we couldn't just leave her outside. So we brought her in. She has been a source of laughs and comfort.

Wow, I didn't realize I said that much. Um, sorry for the outpour, I'm just worried.

Take her in to the vet. 15 lbs is heavy, but I don't think it's enough to cause a limp.

We can't afford to take her to the vet because they would insist on giving her all of her shots and probably spading her as well (if it isn't already done, we have no idea).
However, the limp is only intermittent, and minor. If it persists, we may need to take her. But it simply can't be done right now. :(

In fact, it seems more like a foot cramp... if cats can get those.
