Given that the Rhode Island was able to go head-to-head with two Negh'vars, I doubt very much that the Lakota would even know what hit it.

As to Lakota, I'm not arguing its launch date or its refurbish date. I'm arguing that given the fact that they completely replaced nearly everything inside it, its hard to justify calling it an 100 year old design. When it was sporting all of its old equipment, it WAS a 100 year old design, but updating everything in it to modern standards, the design of all of its equipment isn't 100 years old, so its not fair to say

That's like packing a phaser into a colt .45, then facing off against someone with a vintage slug throwing .45 and saying since both our weapons are hundreds of years old its a fair fight.

Agreed that it wouldn't be fair to call it "100-year-old materiel." However, it IS a testament to the 100-year-old design and spaceframe that it could be refitted to the extent that it was.

We can't even pretend you're close with this one.

The Defiant was the "Phaser" you were talking about. What makes the Excelsior upgrade (colt 45 into Phaser) notch high like it is is that she can now face on even ground the UFP uber ship. You're crying about a cannon ship when the non-cannon ship you want is even more freaked.

Not even close. It's more like producing tungsten cored rounds and improved propellant for your 45 - it'll give better performance, but it'll also stress the weapon more, increasing the chances of it blowing up in your face.
