In the last few years I've developed a tendency to try to get classwork (particularly the larger projects) done (or at least started) as early as possible. I'll start in advance and do the work bit by bit over the course of however many days I have.

I don't know if it's "discipline" so much as having this little voice at the back of my head that won't quit nagging until I get some work done and just gets louder if I put things off longer. But, it works just as well.

Well things have taken a change for the interesting. Some of you might remember Tim? an ex of sorts? I think only MM&I knows fully what happened. Well it went to hell. And it drove me down the plug hole. Depression (and i was being watched by the school councellor for it) and I did the stereotypical thing. Yes. Self harm. Wasnt clever. Wasnt good. And now my left arm still isnt as strong as it used to be. But it went and its all over with. Tim was quite an ass actually. Addicted somewhat to sex, sleeping around a little. Not good.

But things have changed.

He's asked me to help him with a revelation. Almost like "A reset". No more madly sleepin around, waiting for the right guy. What gets me is he specifically asked me to help him. And...I want to.

I'm igniting the midnight petroleum tonight. Gotta lead a discussion tomorrow about the 2nd movement of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, which, according to this article in front of me, is supposed to represent a struggle with the composer's growing deafness. It's very opinionated, which is fine in theory... and listening to the Fifth Symphony with this interpretation in mind can be an amazing experience (not to mention that it really helps with understanding how the piece works and what it might mean) But all this is presented in the article as fact and information, and that really bothers me.

I dunno. Maybe you guys are just spoiling me by backing up your Trek opinions with canon and fact, and even speculative science. This writer just gives subjective names to the various melodies in the movement, and explains what they supposedly represent in Beethoven's personal struggle. There is almost no evidence to back up the theory, and for a scholarly article that claims to have gotten to the bottom of Beethoven's intentions, there really should be. Otherwise it's just veiled speculation.

Reliant, be very careful, regarding Tim. I'm not claiming to know best or anything, especially because I know so little about your situation (and you in general). However, I've learned the hard way that trying to help someone with serious problems can take a terrible turn if that person doesn't also want to help themselves. In my situation, what this person really wanted was attention and vindication for all of the bad decision's they'd made (which in this person's mind were totally rational). Tim might end up taking advantage of your good nature, and if you get hurt it could leave you cynical about trusting/helping others in the future... At least that's where I ended up.

At any rate, this is all based on my own experience, so take it with a grain of salt.

I do hope your depression is feeling more manageable, if not now, then soon. It's a powerful thing, depression.

Kierann, it sounds to me as if you've already seen through Tim-nice-but-dim's facade. I apologise for the upcoming cliches but somebody like that will never, ever change, like leopards and spots. Remember, love is blind but hindsight is 20/20.

It's certainly possible for people to change. I've met a couple of people who had changed a surprising amount since the last time I'd seen them.
Though unfortunately, those people are very rare. Most people will have a revelation, tell themselves and others that they're changing their ways, maybe act on that for a few months, and then fall back into their old habits again. Certain people are just impossible to change in the long term.
If you think that Tim's one of the people who can change, then by all means do as you wish. Though you should be prepared for the possibility that he may go back to his old ways again, even if he seems to have changed initialy.
Maybe he is truly telling the truth, and does really intend to change. That's definitely a possibility. But it's equaly possible he's simply lying, and wants to get back together with you for his own interests. You're a nice guy, be careful he doesn't try to take advantage of that.

I figured I should give a reason for me being around less than usual this last month or so. I am in the process of setting up my own Jewellery line and looking into verious ways of selling it. The market isnt great at the moment so I am taking the oppertunity to get everything organised and maybe make a bit of a stockpile so I can launch in a year or so.
