I'm the one who said it wouldn't be that bad! Glad to hear you made it through so well.

In my own news, I'm at the point of deciding whether to have back surgery or just muddle through the pain day-to-day. I'm even considering things like acupuncture or decompression therapy, or even getting an inversion board. Anybody have any experience with any of these?

I saw a chiropractor regularly when I was a kid; he was the most knowledgable doctor I've ever been to. If you're one of those people who views them all as quacks, I've heard good things about acupuncture.

Yeah, I am one of those people - IMO, if you're not allowed to dispense medication then you're not a physician. I could get a massage (a legit one) cheaper than I can go to a chiropractor for the same thing.

Dr. Klein, my chiropractor, had recieved all the same training that a general practitioner recieves, plus chiropractic training. He couldn't dispense medicine because of the stigma. I don't think regular doctors like the competition.

Hans, actually. He was from Germany, where chiropractors are apparently a lot more respected than here in the states.

Actually, they can't dispense medications because they're not M.D.'s. Similar to the difference between psychologists and psychiatrists, although they're not physicians per se, and there is the subsequent difference in philosophies from the behavioral to the biological.

I just meant the fact that he had the same training as an M.D. plus some, yet still couldn't give out medication seems like politics rather than a legitimate medical doctrine.

Silly question, maybe - but if he had the same training as an M.D., wouldn't he have been an M.D.? Or do you mean he had the same amount of training?

I mean the same training. He's the one that spotted the massive injuries to my ACLs via X-ray, and informed me just how screwed I am. I have no clue why he wouldn't be an M.D. after all that training; perhaps the chiropractic colleges aren't certified. If I could perform surgery without certification, I wouldn't be a surgeon, right? I can fly an airplane (about 10,000 simulator hours), but without certification, I'm still not considered a pilot. The issue here must be something similar.

I think to have identical training to an MD, he would have had to have gone to medical school - not chiropractic school - then served an internship, then residency, etc. I'm not saying he's not both experienced and smart, but similar in scope =/= identical.
