Ok, thanks for that.

Wow kinda got off topic.
Well I'll try and bring it back.
We have also seen that transporters can transport phaser fire. So imagin that you create a hole in the enemies sheilds that you would usually beam a landing party through.
Now imagin you replace that landing party with a shot from your Class X phaser array. Imagin you beam that right into the bridge or engineering...
BANG!!!!!!!!!
You'd need some pretty fast reflexs and training to pull it off but thats what Starfleet is good at.
You hammer away at one place in their sheilds creating a hole then beam a phaser shot in their or even a torpedo.
You could even change the yeild so you cripple the ship but not destroy it.
It is such a cool idea.

Considering how many times we see an episode where phasers a rendered useless, it is a wonder the Federation doesn't develop at least some projectile weapons.
Then again, I guess that would ruin the plot.

When fighting the Borg, why doesn't Starfleet just beam a whole mess of torpedoes deep inside the cubes and detonate them simultaneously? Even just a few would do some pretty serious damage, more than firing blindly at the armoured exterior of it.

I believe transporting into a ship is generally very hard especially when in combat.
Thus you need to get into the right situation to achive it. Get their sheilds down and any jamming device.
I also imagin if the Federation is seen to use this in combat the other powers would find ways to block it. Just like the Federation finding ways around the cloak.
And I believe Torpedoes class as kenetic weapons.
But yes the whole point of this is to skip the armor and do damage right to the places that will criple the ship.

And that is why we have to have these discussions...

Voyager actually did that once, to a Borg scoutship. They weren't ready for the tactic, and did try to disarm it. But they were a little slow...
BAM!!!!!
But I suppose a larger ship might have more resources in disarming them? It also depends on them lowering their shields, too.

And a ship is always moving and you don't want to beam it into a wall that might disarm it.
I think it would be very hard and you'd need very good training to pull it off. It would not be something you do all the time but it's something you'd do if you can.
Starfleet also shows that it does not want to destroy ships unless they have to. Thus this would only be used in all out situation like war.

They beam people aboard starships all the time when the starships are moving in orbit....
And the Enterprise was certainly moving when they beamed Picard out at the end of Insurrection.

Yes, but it is harder the faster relative to each other the ships are moving. I could see dropping off/picking up people from a fixed position on a planet, but they supposedly were being risky with that "Near Warp Transport" in "The Schizoid Man"

When a ship is moving in orbit or a straight line it would be far easier than when when in battle and it is moving at random.
It would be something to do only in certain situations.

The only indication we've ever had of difficulties transporting to something that is moving is the "Can't beam at warp speeds" thing, which can be done with difficulty.
The targetting scanners would be able to track the destination. There are many instances when such beaming was done. Voyager beamed Chakotay off his ship when he flew it into the kazon vessel in Caretaker. Chak's ship was moving,a nd Voyager, in the midst of battle, would have been making some pretty snazzy evasive maneuvers.

So how come they don't do it more often?
Maybe because they don't want to destroy the ships or it really is harder than it seems.
Also to beam off your ship you have to drop your shields which leaves you vunerable.

Because beaming a bomb onto the other ship would be smart?

Very much so, but the question is, can they do it? The two major examples - rescuing Chakotay from the Kazon and Picard from the Son'a, were both beam-outs, which are a lot easier to do than beam-ins.
