I like your idea but the war is already ending. The feds have lost half of there fleet and the bulk of fed space is under enemy control or fighting to stop such.
Huh? I was under the impression that the war had just started. The OP merely said that a war would be likely, it didn't specify a time-frame.
I think that if we want to have a truly fair understanding of the war we would have to start thinking about how it was at the very beginning.
Um, I think we're talking about seperate wars here....
To what, exactly, are you referring?

No. Go back and read the OP - it discusses a hypothetical scenario in which Picard was unable to gain authorisation for his blokade in "Redemption Pt 2", and as a result the Duras faction wins the Klingon Civil War. This lead to a consensus that the resulting Klingon-Romulan alliance would attack and overrun the Federation. Which brings us to the debate whether to abandon everyone and fall back to the Solar System, or whether to try and hold onto them.

okies, i apologise but haven't actually read any of this thread barring two posts, as tempus fugit this week.
Does anyone here really think that Picard was correct about a new romulan-klingon alliance?
Judging by the antipathy between the two races and the rate at which support for the house of Duras dissolved once the romulan connection was ellucidated, wouldn't the best that the romulans would hope for would simply be a dissolution of the klingon-federation alliance.
Ps am just curious, not trying to detract from anything here, or go off on too huge a tangeant, just something i've always wondered...Worf's begruding line from Nemesis about the romulans fighting with honour, comes to mind

deepcrush, in one of your earlier posts you were referring to the Husnock and kevin uxbridge the douwd, weren't you?
deepcrush, although romulans are known for their strikes and skirmishes on klingon border worlds, and although we may not know much concerning romulan armadas in massed battles, thus may not be due to a lack of numbers or deficit with the romulan navy but rather a cultural predilection........

I had in fact made a point earlier about the unlikelihood of a lasting alliance between the Klingons and the Romulans, but as this is a "What If" scenario, we decided to take it as a given.

The reason I think an alliance would happen is "The enemy of my enemy is my friend". The Romulans want the Feds gone and team up with the Duras sisters to pull it off.

I don't see it lasting though. To many troubles. If the romulans are smart, which they are, they would start off in the war but make little effort to win it. Fight just enough to keep the klingons happy and let the two sides beat each other to a bloody pulp!

ditto ,i tend to see the romulans as silver-tongue puppeteers, allowing their enemies to shatter each other asunder and thus be further vulnerable to the romulans' influence.
mikey, you did make that point, i think someone didn't get enough sleep last night, lol

But they would need to be active in this allance as it is the only way to really beat the Federation.

I believe the Romulans would be happy to set things in motion, let the Klingons and the Feds beat each other to a pulp, annex the losers, and use those extra resources to move against the now-depleted victors.

Agreed mikey, the romulans don't mind fighting but they are always looking for the better deal. By egging on the klingons and by such weakening their two greatest enemies.

Seems to follow what we've seen of their mindset, alright.
Hmm, didn't they try something similar in ENT? My memory of that show is, thankfully, lacking.

Yes, they did - to sow strife between the powers that were coming together to form the precursor of the UFP was expressly stated as their intention.

Unfortunately, much of ENT is branded into my memory, like the auto accident I was in years ago.
