Waste of time to mine the straight one small mine at a time. Better to load ten on the back of a speed boat. Accuracy depends entirely upon the way its controlled or programmed. Given that it's Iran we're talking about I'm going to go with pretty fucking imprecise.

Agreed. A better way to mine the straight would be through naval assets.

On what do you base your judgement? Are Iranian specialists that incompetent?

And you are right about mining 1 at the time.

Look at what Iran produces on it's own. Copies. 95% of it's military production are knock offs of other people's designs. These are not people with the capability to design new advanced weapons. They struggle to rip off other people's work and keep it running. Something late 70's vintage they could pull off. Late 70's vintage drone aircraft were very very limited in what they could do.

Israel has an history of bombing neighbours if they feel like it.

Also, don't forget that such Drones could, off course, be deployed against U.S. troops in Iraq. But I'd be a lot more worried about what kind of havoc they could unleash on the Ormuz Strait. If Iran has a powerful weapon at its disposal, it'll never be the nuclear weapon, but the capacity to plunge the world economy into one of the greatest energy crisis it's ever gonna know via attacking/mining the Ormuz Strait.
The last time Iran tried that, her Navy ended up at the bottom of the Gulf.

Thats a brief over view. Basically Iran started screwing with shipping (laying mines) and the US Navy demolished them.

Iran basically has no worthwhile Navy anyways, so any attempt by them to screw with shipping (especially oil related shipping) is just going to leave them with a bunch of broken kit. If we can't find their ships, we'll just bomb the ports.

Three less drones

Here is the relevant quote from the article:
A few weeks ago, according to official and private reports, the Iranian air force shot down three drones near the southwestern city of Bushehr, where a Russian-supplied nuclear reactor has just started up. When the Revolutionary Guards inspected the debris, they expected to find proof of high-altitude spying. Instead, the Guards had to report to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei that the air force had blasted Iran's own unmanned aircraft out of the sky.
Whoops?

Ah, Iran. Always a great source of comedy.

I'll bet heads rolled over that.

Hum... no. It's bad communication between the anti-air defence forces and the people running the experimentation project.

It's not like such incident never happened in the U.S., Canada or Europe.
