Who'd have thought it'd be such a popular topic?

Well, a lot of the first season was fun while the second season has been a real let down. We here at DITL do love to talk about things we like and ruin things we don't.

How many times has the weapons thread been split now?
And when will Deep get Insurre... I mean the next SF mission up?

Just watched Aftermath for Attila v Alexander. Not a bad recap but they end up having to make excuses about why they didn't test Alexander's armor. "Because Attila could just shoot around it."

Right, because a dude on horse back running full tilt at another guy on horseback could totally fire an arrow fifty yards and hit the ten square inches of exposed flesh behind the shield and totally hook it in such a way that the arrow hits something vital instead of the non-vital area that was left exposed because it was.... you know... non-vital.

Well of course...

And this is exactly why you should never let fanboys dictate how shows like this are run.

Jesse James. I assume several people were high during this.
Episode 12: Jesse James vs. Al Capone
Jesse James team:
Jesse James weapons: Bowie Knife, Colt 1851 Navy Revolver, Colt Single Action Army, Winchester rifle, Pistol Whip
Al Capone team:
Al Capone weapons: Stiletto knife, Tommy Gun, Mk II "Pineapple" grenade, Brass Knuckles
Results Jesse James Kills Al Capone Kills
Close Range Bowie Knife 13 Stiletto Knife 1
Mid Range Colt 1851 Navy Revolver & Colt Single Action Army Thompson Submachine Gun 338
Long Range Winchester Rifle MK 2 Grenade 116
Special Weapons Pistol Whip 2 Brass Knuckles 1
Totals 544 456
* For mid-range weapons, Jesse James' Colt pistols were tested in a recreation of a bank and made 3 multiple-hit kills in under 7 seconds, with a drawing time of a quarter second, with two kill shots and one mortal wound in the cheek. Al Capone's Thompson's sub-machine gun was tested on 3 targets as well. It shot all 3 targets in 5 seconds with similar results as the Colt pistols. The Colt pistols were tested on horseback and the Thompson in a 1929 Ford, simulating the vehicles at the time. The Colt pistols shot three of the 5 tagets, two kill shots one mortal wound. The Tommy was tested in the Ford with almost identical results. The edge was given to the Tommy gun due to the ability to put multiple bullets in the test dummies.

Two questions:
1) What were the scores for the mid and long-range weapons?
2) Since when is a grenade a long-range weapon?

I didn't see the show. I copied the stats from the wiki entry and they don't have the numbers.
Just from what I can see here I can tell I would not have enjoyed that hour of TV. I was entirely too sober.

How in the name of all that's unholy can you even put the Colt 1851 Navy in the same universe as a Thompson?!
The Colt 1851 Navy was a cap-and-ball revolver - it couldn't be carried safely unless you carried an empty chamber against the hammer, so it's got an effective ammo capacity of 5 shots; since it needs separate, muzzle-loaded powder and balls, then cylinder-loaded primers, and had no ratcheting lever or swappable cylinder, it effectively takes a month of Sundays to reload; and Navy in that context means .36 caliber - even at its heyday as the official sidearm of the Texan army, a Navy caliber pistol didn't have much in the way of stopping power. Plus, while this wouldn't figure into the show's testing, the Colt 1851 Army and Navy had no top strap - they were rather unreliable and fragile compared to things like the Remington New Model.
Oh yeah, the Colt 1851 - even the later SAA - had sights which the factory set at whopping range of 10 or 20 yards.
I know the show is made by fanboys not scientists - but even fanboys usually have at least heard of what they're discussing.

Hey, at least we have rock solid confirmation that the people who make the show are no longer even pretending to take it seriously.
