In that case sure, the church does try to lead people to live wholesome lives.

Well, at least Pope Brownshirt... er, Benedict... came out with such a strong stance and said, "Hey guys, quit molesting kids. Please?" :roll:

The said part is, there are Catholic heirarchs from the Middle Ages saying to their dead buddies, "Think that's sinning? They ain't seen nothin'!

Why not simply threaten to excommunicate them. That used to be the ultimate threat.

#1 - Excellent question. Why not, indeed?

#2 - Il Papa Benny has already demonstrated that excommunications are only temporary, even the well-deserved ones.
