Any idea what sort of scenario we're heading into? I've got an idea or two bouncing around my head for a while if you're stuck for a plan.

I call dibs on Apothecary, can't survive long without one of them. Maybe the White Scars or the Space Wolves.

Dark Reign has a good set of fleshed out rules as a .pdf Tyyr.

Yeah, I'm going to use one of them I just can't access the site from work.

The only one I have on my stick drive is the meh set that reuses DH's weapons (which are precisely stated to SUCK compared to Astartes versions) and I'm not wild about character progression.

I think I'll go for someone from the Space Wolves chapter. Space Vikings FTW! Maybe one of the heavy-weapons guys (Long-Fangs, right? Need to read those books again).

If I upload the ones I have to rapidshare can you access that from work?

Do the 'Wolves have apothecaries, or just use their rune priests?

Right.
Wolf Priests act as both Chaplain and Apothecary. Rochey pooched my Wolves idea though, so I'll probably play a White Scar.

So...anyone got any suggestions for someone who is interested, but has only a general understanding of the AA?

If you're just looking to get started, here is a list of the 20 original legions. Just take a look through them and see which of the legions has the right "feel" for you.

The legions themselves are no longer in existance. They were dissolved and replaced with a larger number of chapters instead, to prevent any Astartes rebellion on the scale of the Horus Heresy from ever happening again. But many of the descendent chapters keep much the same traits as the legion they were born from, so checking through the list will give you a nice indication.

The most basic and versatile is the tactical marine: power armor, bolter, sometimes grenades, and (though it isn't listed) very often a sword depending on the chapter. Devastators = long-range heavy firepower. Assault marines = close combat. There are specialists also, like librarians (Space Marine psykers,) chaplains (keepers of the chapter's particular faith,) apothecaries (field surgeons/remove the implanted gene-seeds from dead or dying brothers,) or techmarines (augmented marines who have studies with the AdMech.)

You can find links to all of those on the bottom of the page I linked above. See also here for some background info on the Adeptus Astartes, and here for a list of chapters, with links to individual articles on each chapter.

Your choice of Chapter also goes a ways to deciding your attitude and role. The Space Wolves favour close combat, White Scars; fast attack, Imperial Fists; sieges etc.

Ok

1) I've got the basic campaign idea fleshed out as well as the follow on campaign. A little mental riffing got me an idea and a motivation so we're set there.
2) I'm going to be liberal with the starting XP, as members of a kill team we're already well up in rank. The downside is I'll be stingy with additional XP for a while and you can't use it till the end of the mission.
3) I'm going to be liberal with marines, chapters, gear, etc. Just don't go nuts.
4) One character a person. This is a surgical strike team. The exception is me since I'll be running the railroad conductor Inquisitor as well as my devestator.
5) We need a leader. I'm not a fan of mobs.

Not a big deal. I'll link to them tonight. People can DL them off the DR site themselves.
