The girl's eyes darted from the ration pack to Mir and back again, and she practically pounced on the offered food, ripping the package open and cramming down several handfuls in the space of a few seconds. In less than a minute she had finished the meal off, and sat down, weapon laying in reach on the floor and she wiped the packgae clean with her fingers.

Mir pulled out a bottle of water and put his backpack back on. He took a few steps towards the elevator with the water outstretched. "Thirsty?" he asked, stopping at the threshold of the lift.

The girl looked up at Mir with open gratitude on her face, even if the fear and warriness remained. She stretched out a tentitive hand.

Mir stepped into the elevator and handed her the bottle. He backed to the opposite corner and waited with a smile on his face. "I don't suppose you know what the hell is going on do you?"

Accepting the water, the girl shook her head, and then down the entire bottle in one pull, coughing a bit when it was empty.

" No idea," she answered, her voice small and raw. " I went to bed one night, and woke up in the room down the hall."

"Well, that's more than I remember. Did you wake up down that hall?" he asks, pointing down the dark hall.

" No," she answered, fear creeping back into her voice. She made a motion indicating the hall Mir had first ventured into. " I was in that small room around the corner, that..." she pointed straight " is what it lives."

"Huh, that wasn't too bad." Seruatka commented, prodding the corpse with his foot. Glancing out the door to make sure no one else was around, he quickly began going through the body's clothing for anything he could find.

Aside from the axe and his filthy clothes, the man was carrying a pocket full of severed fingers and what seemed to be a liver. Less disgusting and more practical was the silencer that was attached to the autopistol he had possessed, though the latter was so clogged with gore and rusted through that it was clearly a lost cause. The relatively clean attachment to the barrel stood out in stark contrast, and was clearly a newer acquirement.

Dropping the remains of the man's previous victims in disgust, Seruatka quickly pocketed the autopistol after checking its ammunition count and headed cautiously out of the door, autogun at the ready.

The weapon's clip was empty save for more blood and bits of flesh. The door lead out onto a rather nice look hallway, if one could overlook the bloody foortprints in the carpet. It was a short hall, only a half dozen meters, with a pair of doors on either side that wouldn't have looked out of place in an office building. At the end of the hall was a floor to ceiling window, with bright sunlight streaming in and blue sky clearly visible beyond.

"Same room I came from... I don't suppose you saw a cyclops when you came out?" Mir looked back down the hallway. "Where what lives?" he asked cautiously.

"Damn." Seruatka muttered upon inspecting the autopistol's clip. He did his best to clean it, then shoved it into his pocket on the off-chance he'd run across some usable ammunition. As he reached the end of the hallway he paused to put his ear to each of the doors in turn, listening for sounds of movement.

The girl recoiled at the mention of the cyclops, her left hand darting to her right arm in a subconscious manner. Just visible under the end of her sleeves was a wide scar, still pink and raw looking. " It lives there," she repeated dully.

"Actually," Mir said with a grin, "It's dead there. I killed it." He took his backpack off again and rummaged through it. He pulled out the first aid kit and frowned. It was rather sparse. "Come here," Mir said. "Let me look at that. Though first maybe we oughta close these doors," he said indicating the elevator doors.
