I'd doubt that. A single torp wouldn't be enough. It took two against an unshielded D-7.

I think Striker cleared that up, there. One good torpedo hit seems to do it.RK_Striker_JK_5 wrote:'Elaan of Troyius'. The Klingon ship does repeated strafing on the E-nil, battering her but not crippling her. They're able to jury-rig after some sabotage and launch some torps. A single one hits, and to quote...
"Damage to Klingon number three shield. Number four shield obliterated. Loss of maneuver power." "He's badly damaged, Captain, continuing away at reduced speed."

Doesn't sound crippled to me but badly damaged. A crippled ship doesn't move. Doesn't do anything really.

Well, whatever. One torp is enough to seriously damage a fully shielded D-7. Unless we guess that they had diverted power from shields to perform those strafing maneuvers.Deepcrush wrote:Doesn't sound crippled to me but badly damaged. A crippled ship doesn't move. Doesn't do anything really.

Agreed.Tsukiyumi wrote:One torp is enough to seriously damage a fully shielded D-7.
Anything is possible. Maybe they were putting all their power into the weapons in order to break down the E-nil's shields. Whether they were or not doesn't really matter. It leaves the D-7 a good deal behind the Connie in combat.Tsukiyumi wrote:Unless we guess that they had diverted power from shields to perform those strafing maneuvers.

It sure seems that way to me.Deepcrush wrote:...It leaves the D-7 a good deal behind the Connie in combat.

Well, theres the answer to the thread.
Connie is miles ahead of the D-7.

Doesn't mean they were at full power.RK_Striker_JK_5 wrote:Their shields were up.Tsukiyumi wrote:Well, whatever. One torp is enough to seriously damage a fully shielded D-7. Its also possible that the photons weren't at full yield - Chang's ship was trying to disable Kronos 1, not destroy it. Given that the assasins beamed were ready to beam over wearing Gravity boots, its pretty obvious they were deliberately trying to disable the gravitational field (2 people would have no chance at fighting their way through a ship full of Klingons if the gravity hadn't been disabled at that point).GrahamKennedy wrote:Worth bearing in mind that we've also seen a D7 variant - Kronos 1 - take two direct torpedo hits whilst unshielded in ST VI. Whilst it did survive, and was still combat capable, the ship did lose gravity and spin out of control for several minutes. If the attacked had followed up with another few shots, that ship would have been toast.
Were the torpedoes actually Federation ones? and if so, how did Chang get hold of them?

Tis possible the torps were at lower than maximum yield, to be sure. No way to know really, though it's notable that nobody commented on reduced yield.kostmayer wrote:Its also possible that the photons weren't at full yield - Chang's ship was trying to disable Kronos 1, not destroy it. As for their being Federation torps, I would imagine they would use Federation torps simply because Klingon weapons signatures would be pretty obvious on the scanners. And getting hold of them would be reasonably easy since Chang was conspiring with the likes of Admiral Cartwright. Surely he could lay his hands on a torp or two.
And in any case if it was using its own torps Scotty did report later that she was "packing quite a wallop". So their torps must have been at least comparable to Federation ones, if not more powerful.

Point conceded. Keep in mind though the E-nil had been sabotaged and was running on unrefined dilithium rocks at that point.Tsukiyumi wrote:

So then that has what to do with the power of the E-nil's PTs?RK_Striker_JK_5 wrote:Point conceded. Keep in mind though the E-nil had been sabotaged and was running on unrefined dilithium rocks at that point.Tsukiyumi wrote:

No, no, they're putting unrefined dilithium rocks IN the torpedo!
