Never seen a ship outrun a torpedo. Not to mention we have seen ships at impluse speeds fire torpedoes that they move away from those ship very quickly.Captain Seafort wrote:Prove it.m52nickerson wrote:1. Torpedoes, photon, , or other types travel at what, at least 0.25 C.
But of course in your mind that 99.9% is gospel. Why do you watch Trek again?

You know it's possible to enjoy something despite it's flaws, right? You don't have to suck GR ding-a-ling to be a Trek fan nor buy into everything. Look at how popular NeoBSG is despite it's far more massive flaws.m52nickerson wrote:

See Kendall's rely. Hell, I love old BSG. 8)Why do you watch Trek again?

We're still close to topic, we're talking about ground combat...Reliant121 wrote:here we go, debate turns into patriot's haven

....but it enjoyable not to think everyone is an idiot, or space ships can be beaten by WW2 weapons. Of course I don't sit their watching a TV show with my calculator out either.Cpl Kendall wrote: You know it's possible to enjoy something despite it's flaws, right? I understand the point that PTs move faster than starships at impulse - this much is obvious. What I fail to understand is why you think this means PTs travell at greater than 0.25c, given that starship combat routinely occurs at a few km/s at best.m52nickerson wrote:If you fail to understand I can't help you.

Re: Cardassian Ship Technology
What and you think we do? Most people watch TV to be entertained and don't realise ridiculous events or contradicitions until after the show is done and switch on the ole cogitator. And even if they watch it to analyse it, what makes you think they don't enjoy the story behind it? Trek isn't just about a ship and it's weapons, you know. I'll ignore blatent stupidity and poor designs if the story is entertaining. Why do you think so many people like TWOK (hint: it's not because SF doesn't know how to read a map)?m52nickerson wrote:

Most writers lack basic IQ so we have SoD. Besides, have you seen what happens when happens when a large bore round goes nearby? After you get your hearing back and feel safe enough to step out in the open. You see this HUGE crater. Saying that something the weight of a shuttle crashing into you hurts doesn't really stretch my thoughts.....but it enjoyable not to think everyone is an idiot, or space ships can be beaten by WW2 weapons. Re: Cardassian Ship Technology
If they did not travel faster then that we would not see combat at the speeds we do. Who would sit and move slow when you could up your speed and outrun your enemies' torpedo? Torpedoes also have quite a good range, if their speeds were slower then at least full impulse whole planets could just about get out of the way.Captain Seafort wrote:I understand the point that PTs move faster than starships at impulse - this much is obvious. The fact that the writers lack IQ, or just don't do the math is one of the main reason SoD don't work.Deepcrush wrote:Most writers lack basic IQ so we have SoD. I never said that a large bore weapons are not impressive in real life, just not in the contexts of trek.

You are right, but then why bring those mistakes up and use them in discussions? There is no point other then to make the work of fiction seem less then what it was intended to be.Cpl Kendall wrote:What and you think we do? I never said that it would not have an affect, just not enough to bring the shields down.Reliant121 wrote:m52nickerson wrote:Deepcrush wrote: just not in the contexts of trek.
