I'm thinking more of something earlier, actually. I'm very vague on the details, but maybe World War I or II.

in which case technology was a factor to their funtion, technology isn't the problem here, just stupidity.

No, it wasn't technology, it was purpose. The idea was to sow these mines along well traveled routes. The enemy would pass by, maybe many times, then one day BOOM. The purpose was to create in the mind of the enemy the idea that they were never safe from mines, that "following in others footsteps" was no defence.

I really only have a vague memory of this as a real thing. But I can certainly see that it would accomplish that aim.

There are or were mines such as these. Ones that would get tripped by the first few troops in the column and then detonate. A couple anti-tank mines as well.

Modulating Torpedoes

The concept for these torpedoes was taken from the Borg, who have the ability to adapt to a ships shield frequency. When fired, these torpedoes will NOT impact against a ships shields, rather hold off a SHORT distance from the shields (2 to 3 meters) but instead of detonating, will attempt to scan and match the shield frequency of the ship in an attempt to bypass the shields all together. A sophisticated tracking device in the torps guidence system will keep the torp station relative with the enemy ship to avoid being left behind as a ship moves during combat. When the modulation is matched, the torp will re-engage, bypassing the shields all together, and deliver it's payload against the unprotected hull.

The main disadvantage to these torps is that they ARE vulnerable to enemy fire while attempting to match shield frequencies, but could still be used as a distraction or as a way to divert or draw the enemies fire.

What do you guys think of this concept?

I have soooooo many comedy weapon ideas floating around in my head. Replicator beams that convert enemy troops into fluffy toy bunnies... I'm trying really hard to contain myself, and it's not easy. :happydevil:

Bizzarely, I once heard of experiments by the US on chemical weapons that would cause soldiers affected by it to get it on with their fellow soldiers, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. I think the idea was, naturaly, dropped, but I found it pretty hilarious.

That's readily available. We call it "e" or MDMA.

Setting up transporters to beam out only certain parts of enemy soldiers. Perhaps their heart, or their brains. no real damage, if you wish, maybe not even casualties on the enemy side, but all brains could be stored in ' brain fluid' (Sure they have it) and loads of prisoners of war to ' trade'.

Maybe you could link it to your replicator system - none of this ripping out an enemies heart and eating it raw - push a button, and have it served up to you with side salad and some dip. Much more civilised.
