Man, I got to get me one of those things as well. Maybe I could use it to become the greatest warrior known to humanity, after watching a Chuck Norris movie!!!!

As I've said in like a dozen threads they had orders from the studio.Rochey wrote:Why not just go with what was already established, and just use lasers?

I agree with everything besides the submarine warfare. Sub movies suck horribly. Horrible from a commercial standpoint.GrahamKennedy wrote:I'd have gone for a much more "submarine mode" of combat. I'd have had torpedo weapons which ran for several minutes, and had nuclear warheads such that one hit = one kill. Combat would have been about trying to get the first shot in and/or evading the enemy torpedo before it could get you - the kind of thing we see in Hunt for Red October or Crimson Tide.
I'd have given the ship no beam weapons. The crew would have hand lasers, or possibly even slugthrowers.
I'd also have made the ship seem much slower; I'd have made each season equal two years, rather than one, and have most of that time eaten up by referring to months to get from place to place. That would take a bit of paying attention to dates, but how hard can that be?
But what the hell, they didn't ask me!

Well in all fairness, most of the time Archer was beaten up he allowed himself to be or was strapped to a chair.Mikey wrote:Ah that must be the same one he used to beat an Andorian warrior at a traditional Andorian martial art which Shran had studied since childhood and Archer had studied for 30 seconds.Tsukiyumi wrote:He was wearing the all-new Plot Power Belt during that episode. And I remember one commentary of the writers, for the Borg episode, they replied how surprised they were the studio chose that story out of the ten or so that they had written. They said the borg episode was the wild card one they had been saving. But the studio had rejected the other 9. Was really funny since Writers have absolutely nothing to do with the actual production to hear them complain that the Borg are walking like the slowest zombies ever or the sounds don't make sense. Like the script says the Borg board them so the folly guys put in a docking clamp sound when we all know the Borg don't use docking clamps. I have to give it to the writers though they did say they use the TOS warp factor while looking at real star maps. Cause at one point they have a conversation about it and one writer says he tries to but more often than not it gets in the way of the plot and the other says that he tends to use it religiously. Its funny because both wrote the Borg episode.

I, personally, didn't blame any one particular writer or group of writers - I said the "writing" can be blamed, which could easily encompass production changes.

Well, Archer did start to grow a pair during the whole Xindi arc. He even managed to win a fight or two as I recall.

I've mentioned it a few times as well. The transporters, phasers and the armour that functioned as shields were mandated by the studio who feared changing things would drive away viewers. I guess they never looked at the veiwing numbers dropping sharply after TNG ended.Monroe wrote:

Re: ENT killer, ''Balance of Terror'?
Every single time a new movie or series has been in the offing for the last twenty years, I've heard the same two things suggested as the idea they really want to do. A prequel, and Starfleet Academy.
In my humble opinion, both of those ideas suck balls. I shudder every time they are suggested.

Re: ENT killer, ''Balance of Terror'?
I agree, ST has quite an established universe which makes it difficult to slot in a prequel without stepping all over the established canon, which limits the stories they can tell. And a SF Academy show, well that is just going to wind up being a sci-fi version of Saved by the Bell.GrahamKennedy wrote:Every single time a new movie or series has been in the offing for the last twenty years, I've heard the same two things suggested as the idea they really want to do. It could end up as a sci-fi version of 90210.
