Like I said, Fox just doesn't know what to do with sci-fi or fantasy. I sure hope the new Star Wars series isn't on Fox...

Lucas has already said that the series will be available even if it doesn't air on TV. He's going direct to DVD if required and that all planned episodes will be made. It's being funded internally so money isn't an issue.

By the way was Firefly really expensive or something? I mean is there some reason they couldn't have kicked it over to a less prime time slot.

I think it was originally on at 9:00 ona Tuesday or Wednesday. There wasn't much of a less desirable time slot in existence for a prime-time-intended show.

That's still "prime time". Heck that's when Lost aired (8 or 9 on Wednesdays). I think a number of hits have come out of that slot. Of course you have to actually show the show instead of some sports.

CGI was more expensive then than now IIRC and Sci-Fi traditionally costs more due to all the props. I have a hard time seeing Firefly being anywhere near as expensive as ST though. They lacked the makeup and costume expenses for one, I think Mal wore all of four outfits in the entire run.

The props were easier too - just duct-tape a couple of modern firearms and there you go.

I poked around and Firefly actually did better than Buffy or Angel and stood shoulder to shoulder with Enterprise (in the early seasons when people watched it, not in the later ones where everybody got sick of the temporal war crap and it started tanking)

So a network like WB/UPN might well have been pleased. But I think FOX wanted Firefly to hit like CSI, Survivor, or Lost.
That's really sad. I think the very first episode of Family Guy when they brought that series back said it all. If I can find the Youtube clip I'll post it.

Their budget was still around in the millions per episode. Very few shows on television today cost less than a million from start to finish. I think Aqua Team Hunger Force being one of the cheapest at around 50k-100k per episode.

No one is disputing that Firefly had a large budget but rather that it was chearper than ST. Remember that TNG in 1986 had a budget of a million an episode.

I heard that FOX actually wasn't a bunch of dicks with the licensing. But Sci-fi and UPN didn't want firefly. That seems really odd to me.

Universal HD channel seems to be doing well with it. And it looks awesome in HD.

If Sci-Fi gets Mansquito and Tranasaurus Aztecus then they should want Fire Fly :p
Though that said I didn't think Mansquito was that bad.

I don't know what it is, but somehow, I can't imagine it would be good...
