The reports of my demise are greatly exaggerated...

I just had to attend an uncle's funeral on Sunday, which also entailed helping with some arrangements prior as well as a traditional Jewish mourning period the few days afterward which involves visits to the home of the bereaved (which is about an hour's drive for me) and arranging food for other visitors (being mostly Jewish, they don't leave until coffee and cake have been provided.)

I'll throw my condolences in (publicly) now. Mikey actually got a lot closer to my home than he knew in the funeral.

Wait, you live on a Jewish graveyard?

No, but more or less across the street from the very same Jewish cemetery.

Ugh. With the deplorable shape of the one where I was, homeless people wouldn't want to live there. The place was completely uncared-for, both the grounds and the monuments; and the graves were literally less than a foot from one another in some places.

I've never actually been inside there, so I wouldn't know. :?

It's a real shame, and the place ought to be closed to new interrments; but my uncle had bought his plot quite some time ago, as his parents are there.

Actually, I was just out to run some errands, and from my side of the street I could clearly see exactly what Mikey was talking about. A good number of the gravestones I saw were knocked over, they were quite tightly packed in places (it's not a very expansive cemetery), etc. FWIW, it's hardly secluded either: as Mikey as I have obliquely noted, it's right on a rather busy avenue and there are plenty of places where vagrants and ne'er-do-wells could enter at night. I suppose I hadn't thought about it, but it is indeed rather obvious.

Which I said just a few posts earlier myself :poke:
