So, you going to hang out here, or catch a movie, or what?
Take advantage of the snow day!

Well the thing is that being a snow day, I can't really get out.
I live on a somewhat steep hill, and it's a dead end road - the only way out is up. I just watched a guy trying to drive past my house; he spent about five minutes spinning his wheels before giving up and leaving his car where it is. So I'm not going anywhere today!

I guess you're stuck here, then.

Well, at around midday the principal of the school decided "fuck it" and told everyone to abandon ship while we could still get through the snow. It's stopped snowing now, thankfully, and turned out to have been not as bad as we've worried. Still, there's a lot of snow around, and the sky's still black with clouds. Could be pretty bad tomorrow.

Do you guys have to add days to the end of your school-year calendar to make up for snow days?

Sales. Though, who knows what the future will bring...

Ah. In the school districts around here, a few snow days are "built" into the calendar each year - if those are exceeded, then the days have to be appended to the end of the year. Minimum of 180 instructional days each school year.

Another day off over here. Oddly enough, all the other schools seem to have decided to go ahead anyway. Strange.

Well they rang this morning and said that the kids were going to be off but the teachers had to come in as soon as the roads were clear.
It was snowing like hell about that time so I went back to bed for an hour or so, grumping about the stupid head. There's no point whatsoever to asking for people to come in when there's no kids, except to mess up our snow day out of pure spite. The head loves work, she's one of those people who really doesn't like holidays and such because she prefers to be in work. She's very proud that she only ever closes the school if she absolutely has to.
Unfortunately I only live half a mile from school so it's pretty hard to say I can't make it in. A friend who also lives in town rang and we agreed to wait till the snow stopped then see if we could walk it.
Well about 9:30 school rang back; only five people had made it in out of a staff of over 100, so they called it off and told us to stay home.
Snow day, Mark 2!!!!! Yay!!!
The view outside my house looks like this :

That's pretty tame for here but I gather you Brits don't get much in the way of snow.

That amount of snow is very rare here, at least in our areas.

I have a friend in Colorado, USA, and when I told her I was snowed in she said "Oh, how much?" "About six inches" said I.
Five minutes later, after she finished laughing uncontrollably, she informed me that last winter they had four metres of snow in the space of a week where she lives.
