Okay.

I just know the old galactica by Wikipedia & Battlestar Wiki so...

But i guess that Spacedock from Star Trek 1 are still able to fight modern ship if we look at the DITL Overall Strenght, a little higher than DS9 overall strenght.

But then, THEIR Cylon was lasted a thousand yarens so we can only speculate on how a yaren translated into a year.
The Colonials lived to about 200 yahren (from "War of the Gods"). Assuming their typical lifespan was the same as ours (80-ish) then a year would be about 2.5 yahren, making Galactica about two centuries old (500 Yahren, from "The Hand of God"). The ratio could be substantially closer, and the ship correspondingly older, if their typical lifespan is longer, which wouldn't surprise me given their advanced technology.

Hum, i have always thought that people from SciFi world would have a 100 years lifespan, maybe higher for Star Wars & Star Trek.

They might. Wars for one certainly does. However, to produce a conservative estimate we should assume that their lifespan is the same as ours.

Yes of course, and a two century ship it is really old?

When we see the Bird of Prey, the D-7 & K'tinga, & the Spacedock, Star Trek is in the same way.

Not necessarily. With the exception of the battlecruiser, none of the designs we see are more than a century old, and most of them have either been scrapped or reduced to second line duties. The sole exception, the BoP, has been seen in enough different sizes to demonstrate conclusively that many designs use the same basic configuration, supporting a conclusion that the Dominion War BoP is not the same class as Kirk's Bounty.

Galactica, on the other hand, is still a front-line warship after at least two centuries, and probably more.

Well, a little bigger than Colonial Viper.

But a pilot and a gunner ?

And a two seat Viper?

Sorry but i have always considered a two seat vessel more like a Raptor than a Viper.

Well, I like the specs, a fighter need to have this weaponry.

I like it. Maybe the wing mounting could be for a sorta really heavy plasma charge...

Although, I think the rear phaser cannon isn't really necessary if she's fast enough: trek tracking systems have consistently proven themselves to be poor at best Unless we intend to have different variants.

Just caught a mistake. Pilot/gunner is supposed to be one job. The RIO/Ops was supposed to be second. My bad

Most of our modern aircraft use a two man team for a reason. In the thick of battle there is ALOT going on for one man to handle. If your dodging incoming fire while trying to kill your own target, odds are your not nessessarily paying complete attention to the sensor panal or the comm. I've always felt that a 2 person team is more effective, but thats up for debate.

For the look, Viper Mark 2 our 7?

I think a Viper Mark 7 like look more Starfleet-24Century than a Mark 2.

For the debate, Raptor, F35, Rafale are essentially with just one pilot.

For me, the RIO/Ops is usefull if you want to do the an AWACS job (like Iran with the Tomcat) but in Star Trek, the Scout or the Delta Flyer can do the AWACS job of the Raptor, no?

I agree......the mk 7 would be closer to what I envision.

As for the one vs two man crew, computers are wonderful things. However, they are susceptible to all sorts of problems, and aren't capable of decision making worth a damn.

Let me pose this scenario.

Red 5 is diving after a Cardassian fighter. He's closing in on his kill. Meanwhile, he's got another on his six coming in hot. So he's evading incoming fire as he's targeting the main ship. You have a rear mounted phaser, which you turn control of to the computer so he can focus. Computers aren't great at anticipating evasive moves worth a damn. Can he focus on incoming transmission from the rest of his squadren, much less the Battlestar? He could miss something critical and get someone killed. The computer can't make that kind of instant decision to inturrupt him with something. Only an experieced partner would be the best in that position.

Well, i understand your point of view, you want a Tomcat ^^, but a two seat fighter it's two dead and not one.

PS: Red 5?

I prefer Rogue Leader ;)
