That might be an improvement - the Ferengi haven't been seen to lose ships to avoidable explosions.

I want an Ambassador Class. HOWEVER, I want to modify the living hell out of it per my specifications. First upgrade the phasers to type X, then replace the two type 1 burst fire with type 3 and install a pulse photon in the rear. Next, I want to upgrade the shield system and install some ablative armor. for the true creme del a creme, i want to install a secondary matter/antimatter system in the saucer section. I would place plasma frequency modulators throughout the ship so that all the plasma would be intermixable, and finally add a third nacelle to the system.

Now i'm ready to rock and roll with the universe

This is a replacement of the 2 Type 1 Burst Fire with 4 Forward mounted Type 3 Burst Fire and 2 Rear mounted Pulse fire torpedoes are installed. ps, all are rated with photons, the lakota is rated with quantum torpedoes. next the phasers are upgraded from type ix to type x. Shield systems are increased to 165%, which is below what they did with the galaxy class upgrade which amounted to 175%. 5 cm of additional high density armor is added, the structural integrity field is upgrade from normal to high. new sensors and improved computer systems increased range and accuracy to 122% of before. Impulse engines are beafed up, sadly the upgrades slowed the vessel from warp 9.2 to 8.9 maximum velocity. However endurance time increased from 12 hours to 19 hours thanks to the 3rd warp nacelle installed.

OK, then, I'll just make a ship with 3000's across the board.

I'm actually one of the few who appreciated the design of the Amnassador-class, and I thought it's relationship to the Connie would lend itself pretty well to refits/upfits. There were just never enough of the damned things.

I think it was a victim of the Excelsior Class and the fall of the Klingon Empire. There was alot and alot of the Excelsior, and although the Ambassador was a testbed for many new technologies, they went forward and perfected, upgraded and steamrolled it over to build the Galaxy Class. Also I think it was a victim of its own success in design. The Federation wasn't yet ready to build and supply such large ships. And when they finally were, they moved forward with the Galaxy Class. Which left the Ambassador stuck between two era's and mostly forgotten about.

I have a few problems with that estimate.

A.) I don't see the Ambassador being able to support type X phasers.
B.) How are you fitting 4 PTLs where only 2 could fit before?
