Amanda Grayson will appear in STD
Amanda played by Mia Kirshner in Discovery
When asked how much of Sarek’s family we will be seeing this season, the three EPs remained tight-lipped on if Spock or Sybok might show up; however, they did confirm Sarek’s human wife Amanda Grayson will appear. Aaron Harberts revealed Canadian actress Mia Kirshner will play the role originated by Jane Wyatt in the Star Trek episode “Journey to Babel” (and returned in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home). Amanda was portrayed by Winona Ryder in the 2009 Star Trek feature film.
Kirshner may be best known for her recurring role as Mandy the assassin in three seasons of 24. The 42 year-old actress was also a series regular on the L Word, had a recurring role on Vampire Diaries and was a regular as Kenya Rosewater in the Syfy series Defiance.
Also:
No reset button for Discovery
When asked if the events of Star Trek: Discovery would flow through to the rest of the prime timeline and would be available if someone could look up USS Discovery from Captain Picard’s computer, the EPs assured it will all fit in the end.
Harberts: In term of canon, we want to make sure that all of that stuff tracks. So whatever you pull up in Picard’s computer needs to be correct by the time we end our run

So now on ep 3 we get spore based transwarp?! Site to site transport, Star Fleet knows how Romulous looks and apparantly Star Fleet are using the Borgs Species Designations...
Interesting also that Captain Lorca had eye injuries that lasted just a few minutes, every other scene than his first was in bright light.

I took that as a half-assed explanation of why the lighting is so bad.

Probably. Btw the black delta can only mean that our 'favorite' section of Star Fleet is onboard...
Another question is why Michaels prison dress had a delta (and if so why none of the other prisoners had one).
Also nice of that Klingon to save the humans

Please tell me this is a joke that I'm not getting...

Oh puh leeze.

She was stripped of rank - but one presumes she would be in a military prison - or Starfleet prison - not a civilian one, yes? So maybe it's because of that.
Question is why weren't the other prisoners wearing it?
(Ignoring the fact that the delta is the Enterprise symbol and nobody on this show should be wearing it.)

Nope. The big secret mission of Discovery is spores that can send people anywhere in the galaxy in seconds.
Because biology is physics, deep down, and physics is biology... or something.

God, I'm going to have to find a way to acquire these just to watch the train-wreck.

Is it me or we are going to Event Horizon like catastrophe aboard ships with that making no sense at all propulsion system?
After all that episode looked a lot like Alien.
and our new Captain is clearly on the path to the Dark Side if he is not already in it.

hmmm character leaning evil, boring main character, little magic bugs; we're only a floppy-eared jamaican insult away from being The Phantom Menace

At least Phantom Menace have an original story which is able to hold on itslef, not like Force Awaken with it's MaREY-Sue, a secrete faction able to build planet sized Death Star without being noticed by Galactic Government (same government who clearly knew the original Death Star were being built despite being smalled and stealthier... if that word can be used to describe a Death Star) and holes in the story big enough to let a Star Destroyer fly inside and park in reverse... So it''s encouraging.
Oh and I don't think a pilote like Emissary or Encounter at Farpoint could be done in 2017.
Vulcan Hello and Battle of the Binary Star are just the logical evolution after Caretaker and Broken Bow. More action and VFX to catch the viewrers attention.
Hope we will have to use our brain after that.

The interesting thing is the Tribble. At first it seems like a cheap callback. But then again, this particular captain is making weapons to beat the Klingons. Tribbles have a reaction specific to Klingons, no matter what they look like. Captain Lorca is keeping a Tribble as a Klingon detector.

A smart move from the show.

And yet this is prior to Kirk finding out that that is the case. The psychic abilities of the crew are indeed strong. It would have to be a call forward.
