Well, we have three ideas on the table so far.

A set of type XII's for heavy fire. Another array of DS9 turrets. A compromise would be a mix of such. A third option would be to copy the current defenses of the main hull.

I'd say a flood of micro torps. Unless the incoming missles are shielded, those micro torps can do the job. They won't draw as much power as more phasers, and are small enough to be easily replicatable.

What about the magical "Anti Matter Spread"?

Micro torps are a good idea, as long as you can set them to proximity detonate, sorta like a propelled guiding mine.

So how long would it take for this type of ship to be rendered obsolete? Given how in 10 years, the HMS Dreadnought was not even up to the current Battleships of WWI...

1) "The HMS" is crap grammar.

2) HMS Sovereign of the Seas was launched in 1637. Two centuries later she would, had she still been in service, have been considered a decent first rate.

I would imagine these ships' service lives are going to depend directly on how much use they see. If you have one that only sees minimal action, I could easily see a service life of 150+ years. Is that what your asking?

I think the question is how long until it's rendered obsolete by more advanced designs. HMS Dreadnought was a revolution at the time, but within 10-15 years had been surpassed by newer battleships based which were modifications to the same template.

Considering this is a Starfleet ship, there is no such thing as "good enough". I'd imagine they start planning a mark II or upgraded version before the initial run is even completed, with another Battlestar class produced within 20 years if it proves a success.

By the time they finish the first batch of Battlestars, the UFP would be working on the MkII. So every batch would be upgraded with the latest tech.

However, a ship of this size and make will never be obsolete. She has to many uses. Though her role may change over time.

I just had a vision of a 300 year old Battlestar as the cargo ship from hell :laughroll:

Joking aside, the pure power this thing has will make it invaluable maybe even a hundred years into the future. No other mainstream race can match it, and even if the hull begins to stress, think of this thing as a giant weapons platform or make shift defensive base.

Indeed. Even within a hundred years, her armament and sheer size would make her a formidable opponent, even for a state of the art battleship.

In the original Galactica, Battlestar aren't millenial or century ship?

That depends on what the hell a "yaren" was. It was implied that the original Galactica was several hundred yarens old, and had been commanded by an ancestor of Adama before. But then, THEIR Cylon was lasted a thousand yarens so we can only speculate on how a yaren translated into a year.
