Does that blend?
Mark wrote:Indeed. I'm not completely sure how we'd mount it on a turret either.
The turrets don't have to be as big as the AGT lance. We would be talking a larger number of smaller models meant for better coverage.

For the weapons. I had set about for had two heavy cannon on a turret mount with two of the pop up defenses we saw from DS9. Each would be a type X and a Pulse fire PTL.

DS9 Turrets are probably enough yes but for the lance, maybe two or four big in the nose and many little in coverage?

I kind of like having the heavy hitting lances in the front and then lots of all around coverage. So they can blast through slow cumbersome ships in front of them and still be able to knock around a couple fighters that get thrown at them.

So basically replicate the Beast's fit with Trek kit?

With phaser array & shields, we don't need to have the PDC of the Bucket, but if we want to fight Dominion & Borg, we need to have an heavy armament plus the carrier role, Defiant or a more little ship to fight the Dominion Attack Ship.

So the Beast seems to be a better choice, no?

We should reclarify the ships role. We are designing the Battlestar as a planetary assault vehicle. It's designed to breach a systems defenses, deploy troops to the ground with fighter support, and survive until its time to leave.

She is going to be so hard to maneuver that more mobile ships are going to have a huge advantage. A small task force is going to be able to eliminate her, since she can't MOVE to evade there fire.

She should, however, be able to pretty much ignore the sort of firepower smaller ships can bring to bear - you'd need a fleet to bring her down. We're talking about a vessel several times the size of anything the Alpha Quadrant has previously produced

Breach a system defense yes but i still think that she can breach the defense of a Dominion Dreadnought and two of these Battlestar, maybe three, can match a Borg Cube.

It's not only a planetary ship for me, but a Battlestar.

No, there will be no Defiants on board... End of that story.

We already worked out the weapons system. I'll try to find it and post it since people are now rerunning the very same stuff. As for the forward hull. We have four rapid fire QTLs already, on top of the normal defensive screen.

With the "surviving attack" part. She has 10m of ablative armor with three layers of shields and three layers of SIF. Her heavy turrets match the fire power of 24 Negh'vars. Her secondary armaments equal the phaser and torp output of 16 uprated GCS. Her forward QTLs match the total torp power of a pair of Sovs combined.

Anyone think of anything that can survive an attack on that?

I should have been clearer. When I was writing this, I had the thought in my head of a force of SHIPS OF THE LINE (ie GCS equivilants or above). Also, for clarification, IMO a small task force can be anywhere from a dozen to a score of ships.

That's as it should be, to survive orbital and system defences, penetrate planetary shields, and survive ground based weapons. She SHOULD be able to engage a Starbase.

Well,

it's what i said, this ships is designed to destroy a dominion dreadnought, and two or three of them can match a Borg Cube without Voyager technobabble.

(except if the Daystrom Institute has a Gaius Baltar who work about the Navigation Program  )

Not saying it COULDN'T match those ships, but that's not what we're designing it to do as a primary mission.

This Battlestar would most likely cake walk a Dominion Dreadnought and a Borg Cube would have to survive the impacts of 960 QTs per minute before reaching effective "Energy" weapon's range.

Yeahhhh.....

I have a feeling that it would cakewalk a Cube as well... especially if the cube just tried to run through them like they usually do.
