I had no idea that the flute was so much more popular than the trombone. Although, in most of the circles around here people tend towards baris or mellophones for tenor brass, because of the high concentration of drum and bugle corps.

I just went to the rifle range in Oroville yesterday, to do a little shooting with my .308. Turns out I'm not bad. I can hit a penny at 100 yards, and a golf ball at 200. And a pumpkin and 13" TV/VCR combo unit at 400. My rifle is a Tikka T3 Lite bolt action in stainless steel, and I use a Burris 3-9x40 scope. I just shoot factory ammo for now (Federal PowerShok 150 grain), but I'm really thinking of handloading to customize the ammo specifically for my rifle. The range goes out to 600 yards, but I'm too lazy to carry a target that far. BTW, I also brought a cheap can of chicken noodle soup with me, and they make awesome targets. They literally EXPLODE when you shoot them.

Your range lets you shoot TVs and cans? Wow, that's pretty lax. Cool, but lax.

But I finally got my Ph.D. and have started my new job doing nuclear related research in the US.

Those two things are why I haven't had time to be active here like i used to.

My grandparents on my dad's side are both losing their health fast, and they live across the country. It's really hard to take it, because I see them less than once a year, and every time I think to call them I feel too guilty to go through with it because I don't keep in touch enough, and it's a terrible cycle. Feeling pretty morbid right about now. But it cheers me up to lurk here, so here's to you guys.
