" Phebia, wait!" Haxta called after the Sororitas. " Please, this in-fighting is only going to hurt us. I rather think we're only a very narrow path at the moment, and there is only death on either side. We need to work together, and more importantly," she addressed the group as a whole now. " We need a plan. If we just go marching of blindly into this, someone is going to hang us up by our entrails, whether its cultists, daemons, or our supposite allies."

Enrick's smiled as the people battered back and forth. "And here I was, the whole damned time saying we should have just killed them and moved on. But no... we have to be friends, work together. F**k it all."

Haxta regarded Enrick for a second, then gave a mirthless laugh. " So we just kill everyone and hope the problem sorts itself out?"

Enrick shrugged. "Why the hell not? It works well enough. The sooner we finish up here the sooner I go home and get to forget about this shit hole planet."

" And what if while we're killing everyone, the real threat uses the time to summon a daemon?" Haxta asked. " Oh wait, let me guess...we'll just kill the daemon, right? I'm sure you could probably do it all by yourself even."

Enrick gave Haxta a kiddish shove. "You're a huge doubter for someone so small. All that wasted energy and still not to bright." Shaking his head, Enrick walked out of the hab and back to the streets. "I should just book passage home. This whole thing is going to turn into a waste if everyone just plans on failing at everything."

Haxta glared after Enrick, swearing under her breath. She turned to regard the rest of the room. " So? Is that how we're going to do things? Kill them all and hope we don't miss someone important?"

"This bickering casts us in straights most dire if we continue upon this unyielding path of scapegoating and ego stroking. Knock the fucking iron wanking for two Emperor damn seconds and let us host an idea that is amicable to all parties without any ill suited side effects of shooting the cocksucker next to us."

"They're right, Enrick. Killing those alleged Malleus agents would probably have been fun, but it would have done little to prevent the cultists from acheiving their goals. We have to assume that both Aristarchus and these Malleus agents are both worthy of suspicion, but we'll also have to use them both to find out the truth of the matter here, and to put a stop to it." Trask paused thoughtfully for a moment, then asked, "I don't suppose this new-found friend actually told you anything useful about how to stop whatever daemon-raising is to occur?"

Phebia shook her head. "No, he was disgustingly vague. I agree he's worthy of suspicion but when someone claims a daemon is being summoned my first impulse is to confirm or deny it, not shoot the messenger."

1130, Day Two

"Fair enough," Trask answered. "I'm just saying that the only people we can trust are each other - and that's only because we share a more immediate mistrust of everyone else. Shame this guy didn't offer any more immediate help. We can try to nip this situation in the bud, but if something is summoned here, I'm afraid I'm fresh out of psycannons," he continued ironically. "I think our best option for the moment is allow Aristarchus to take us to the site, and keep our eyes and ears open for anything untoward from him - or directed at him."

" So we just sit and wait to see what happens?" Haxta asked.

"Has it occured to anyone," Karibi spoke up quietly. "That, if the Seer is indeed on the other side, we may be walking right into a trap? We already have an indication that the Seer may have tried to have us killed. Now we're blindly wandering out into the middle of nowhere, three days from civilisation. All on his advice. That's starting to set some alarm bells off in my head."

"No, we're all fools. Of course it's occured to us but whatever is happening is happening at the chapel, not here. Like it or not if we are going to discover what is going on we need to go there and I for one would rather ride with its dangers then spend weeks walking there."

"All the more reason for us to go home and let the other guys take their turn at it."

Enrick stopped in his place and turned to face the group. "Oh! And for the record. I wasn't going to kill those guys for no reason. I was going to kill them because I don't like them." Enrick used his arms for an over done gesture to make the point. "I don't like ANYONE who kidnaps one of our members, threatens our lives, interferes with our mission or just plain annoys me. These guys managed all of that within an hour."
