What do planetary shields consist of? What does 1 planetary shield equate to? 1,000 TJ, 1 DITL rating? 1 monkey power?

They basically defend a planet against bombardment.

The way the math works is the total planetary shield rating against the total short range firepower of the fleet shooting at it. You can find that figure for each ship on your battlestats page. The fleet attacking must remain with clear lines of supply as it will expend a lot of ammunition and energy attacking. The rules are below. If your fleet has a lower firepower than the shield it can't punch through it as it regenerates faster than they can deplete it.

Destroying a Shield

If you possess firepower in excess of the shields rating (you can scan the rating from in the system once it is in operation) then you can start to take down the shield, which can be a long or short process.

A shields rating is expressed basically by dividing its total output by 1 million (the smallest shield allowed). So a 5 million-unit shield is rated as a 5 for game purposes.

The rate of attrition is determined by dividing the combat power of the fleet by the rating of the shield. If the fleet is rated at 5.01 million it would reduce the shield by 1 unit per week, destroying it when it reached 0 during the 5th week.

This would be the case up to 10 million combat power for the fleet, when it would then reduce the shield by 2 ratings points per week, destroying it after 2.5 weeks.

If a fleet leaves before a shield is destroyed either of its own free will or because it is driven off in battle the shield returns to its full strength.

If your fleet is equipped with Plasma Torpedoes, Tri-Cobalt devices or some other such demolition weapon your attack rating is modified upwards. Tri-Cobalts are cheap to develop and deploy so if you want the bonus you should bite the bullet and do the work.

Special Supply Rules for Attacking a Shield

Attacking a shield uses up a large quantity of torpedoes and energy (in the form of anti-matter to power the beam weapons). You must have a fleet in supply to assault a shielded world. It must have clear supply lines back to the nearest logistical base in your empire or to a supply depot you have constructed.

If someone sent me something and didn't get a reply, my apologies. I got back from class and had 33 messages in my inbox.

Also BIG if I could get a full list of what ships are being sold to who and for how much when you turn in your spreadsheet that would be helpful, I've already lost track.

By the way, (and no I didn't forget to put this up earlier), I will be allowing colonization this turn.

Don't forget sheets are due Tuesday

He doesn't really have a choice. Diplomacy has already failed (or so it seems) and the only other option is military. The Romulans simply don't have the strength, nor desire to take on both the Federation and the Klingons.

I would prefer a war... means I can make more money.
Crud I'm starting to think like them now...

It's the UFP. They aren't going to go to war over a trade dispute.

Of course they wouldn't likely. But the Romulans can't risk that they might.
Diplomacy has failed. The only two options are fight it out in battles or give up. He chose the later.

Also, from the looks of it, the Romulans don't want their past relations with other powers to remain the same. They want things to improve.

But this is just how I see it. I may be wrong. He may have some devious plot up his sleave to bring the Federation to its knees and... I'm not helping, am I Nick.

Well currently I will not allow them to decide my internal policies, and due to that diplomacy has failed because we refused to cede to a single point, which as the federation is fair enough, and also we go slightl mouthy about it, so they got pissy and we don't want war, but if it needs to happen so be it, we don't need trade as bad as some others do. I know the Romulan populace will be pissy this turn but I don't care much right now because it cannot be changed now.

So yeah. That's the position I'm in now since I won't cede to the Federation.

Well that was an interesting morning of communications. Everyone got in their last minute "Fuck you!"s before the turn ended.
