Yeah, those were the Ford-Jags. Pre- and post-Ford, I don't think there's any issues with jags more or less than other cars... just that a $50 part costs $250.

My perfect car is really uninspiring really. I'd like something spacious enough to fit a couple of dogs in and cheapish to run. Maybe a Ford Mondeo Estate or something boring?

I fucking hate my bank. FUCKING HATE IT. Once again these assholes fuck me over in the name of an overdraft fee. We're getting new windows but we needed some time to transfer the money out of our savings to our checking account. So I give the window guy a check post dated for today. This morning I check my account and they'd withdrawn the funds yesterday. Check dated for the 26th, the bank cashed it on the 25th. So I call. They won't refund the overdraft fee because, "The bank doesn't care about the date on the check. " WTF? You work for me bitches, you're supposed to be safeguarding MY MONEY, and you don't really care about one of the key lines on a check? Not only that but they had the gall to start telling me how I was guilty of committing fraud. My response was several four letter words and the general gist was that I was finding a new bank. There's a credit union up my street. Wachovia, go fuck yourself.

Now the window guy screwed me because he assured me he wouldn't do anything with it until today. Obviously he turned right around after he left my house and deposited it. He'll be getting a call from me and unless he's going to cut $105 off the price I'm going to the next guy in line for windows.

Fucking asshole bank.

What the f*ck? That's the whole point of post-dating a check. I haven't had a bank account in ten years, and even I know that.

"Fraud", my ass. Get him on tape saying that, then sue the f*cker for slander.

It's not slander, because you technically can't post-date a check. I'd say the contractor is more the problem than the bank - if he deposited the check, then the bank doesn't really have recourse but to process it. If, however, he gave you his word as a man that he would sit on it - a/o never said it would be a problem when you gave it to him and told him it was for today - then he's a dick, pure and simple.

I've never heard that. I know my parents and grandparents did it all the time, but perhaps the rules have changed since the 80's.

EDIT: Just checked the UCC, and it appears you're right. I guess people just had some common f*cking decency back then.

I told her, "You work for ME. You are my bank with my money. If a check says its not to be cashed until the 26th, you'd damn well better not cash it on the 25th!" Banking laws my fucking ass. If its not kosher then they shouldn't accept the check period, not just cash it anyways. Should have asked her if there's anything else on the check they just ignore for the hell of it like maybe the amount.

They're gone though, they've done this before and I've fought them off most of the time. Like the last overdraft. I got gas and paid via debit right? Well I only put in like $20. The next day I was getting paid. I check, overdraft. Why? Because the gas station put a hold on my account, not a charge, just a hold, for $50. So no one actually took more money out of my account than I had, they just had a hold on it. I went off on the person I talked to about it.

I got an over draft fee because I "might" have overdrafted?

Yes.

But at no point did I actually overdraft my account.

Well no but there was a ho...

Ok, so you just said I never actually overdrafted my account you're just charging me because it theoretically could have been?

Well I didn't say that...

Lemme talk to your supervisor.

I got that $105 back but I promised myself the next time they tried this bullshit I was gone. Well they did, and I'm gone.

Yes they do. "We're sorry but we can't cash this check, the date is irregular."

This is one of the myriad reasons I don't deal with banks.

When America decides to switch to an all-electronic credit currency system, I'll just take my cash somewhere else.

Yeah, it's moe a question of the contractor pulling a dick move in a situation in which most of us would act like humans. Everybody does it all the time; it's just a case of getting caught up in the bank because the contractor went back on his word.
Tyyr wrote:Yes they do. "We're sorry but we can't cash this check, the date is irregular."
Certainly. The point is that 99.99% of the blame here should fall on your contractor rather than the bank. The $50 hold thing is completely out of bounds, though. I don't see how you can consider money drafted that hasn't been drafted yet.

Yeah, I'd strongly advise dropping that bank, Tyyr. It seems like they're just out to rip you off.

Well the contractor is writing me a check for the overdraft and I've got a appointment to open an account tomorrow.

This just happened to me with Wachovia, charged me overdraft fees on 3 'on hold' charges. I also have a Chase account, they haven't charged me for any 'pending' overdrafts.
